Keeper Brown Joining Town
Thursday, 28th Mar 2013 09:57

Former Blackburn, Gillingham and Aberdeen keeper Jason Brown has revealed that he is joining the Blues.

Brown, who was previously unattached and has joined the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season, tweeted: “I can let it out the bag now all signed off and I'm very happy and proud to announce that I am officially an Ipswich Town player.”

The 30-year-old, who has been capped three times by Wales at full level, was born in London and started his career as a youth player with Charlton before making his name with the Gills, where he played 137 games between 2001 and 2006.

Brown, who will wear the Town number 13 shirt and has been training with the squad this week, moved on to Blackburn, signing a four-year deal, but made only 12 starts and four sub appearances while at Ewood Park, during which time he spent stints on loan at Saturday's opponents Leeds, Leyton Orient and Cardiff.

In the summer of 2011 he joined Aberdeen, where he made 22 starts and one sub appearance before leaving in January to look for a club in England.

Town adding a third senior keeper to their ranks is no surprise with West Ham having recalled Stephen Henderson from his loan last week after their second-choice Raphael Spiegel broke a finger while on international duty with Switzerland’s U21s.

Scott Loach impressed manager Mick McCarthy during his spell in the side before picking up a thumb injury and it may well be that the former Watford man gets the nod against Leeds on Saturday.

Today is the final day that Football League clubs are able to sign players on loan, but with six domestic loanees already in the squad - Reece Brown, David McGoldrick, Aaron Mclean, Patrick Kisnorbo, Richard Stearman and Jay Tabb - it's unlikely that the Blues will make any further additions.

Loach so far has had one bad game and he has suffered for that where as He Derain has had a few bad games (not of late I grant you) If I where to judge between the two I would say at shot stopping they are both about the same while dominating the area Hendo is slightly ahead if Loach but with distributing the ball Loach is clearly ahead of Hendo. But Hendo is gone this new keeper while not really known to us is a smart move as we need three senior keepers. But I think Loach is our new number 1 and it is up to him to keep the role and show Mick he should fulfill it next season.

Seem to remember brown carrying a bit of excess weight when he came on for Leeds couple of years ago, hopefully, he's sorted this. Fully expect loach to start Sat. Unlike others I'm not convinced by loaches shot stopping, seems susceptible to shots from the edge of the area low to his right eg goals concede M'boro (a) and the 2nd wolves goal at home, top notch keeper would have dealt with them. I think it's more a positional issue than any lack of shot stopping ability.

I was 100% sure Mick would get another keeper in before the deadline but a bit disappointed its someone who will not be number one at the outset. This however is Loach's big chance and make or break for him I would suggest. I really hope he can cut the mustard but have serious doubts. Good luck Loachy this is your chance.

I guess this shows that MMcC doesn't have any confidence in ALB. I guess he'll be on his way in the summer.

Remember him years ago when he was at Gillingham, always liked him, surprised he never played more games at a higher level.

No real surprise. No disrespect to him, but suspect he's just in for cover and along with ALB will leave in the Summer. Loach will clearly be given a chance. He needs to take it - or I suspect MM will sign a new No. 1 in the Summer. Good opportunity this for Loach - and even though I have not been impressed with him so far - I wish him luck.

Good keeper up at Aberdeen last season; deserved to keep his place this season when Langfield first choice came back, but naturally Brown wanted first team football when he was stuck on bench instead and left in January. Obviously it hasn't been as easy as he thought to get a new club, hence his arrival at PR presumably as back up initially.

if he has a cool head and doesnt flap like Loach and ALB, then he's first choice.. Wish to see ALB and Loach be more composed, but I seem to be wanting too much from so called professional footballers

Very well thought of at Aberdeen and Gillingham. Only recently lost his place in the Wales team (mainly due to lack of football).
Hopefully can do a good job for us.
