Town Draw Stevenage in Capital One Cup Monday, 17th Jun 2013 09:30 Town have drawn League One Stevenage away in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
The teams have not previously met in a competitive fixture, although they faced one another in a pre-season friendly in the summer of 2007 when the then-Conference side won 3-0.
Blues central defender Tommy Smith had a spell on loan with Stevenage in 2008, making 15 Conference appearances.
The tie will be played in the week commencing 5th August. The draw was seeded based on the final league positions during the 2012/13 season and split on a north-south basis.
Last season’s two highest-placed relegated Premier League sides have received byes through to round two in the case of Reading and round three for Wigan.
The 2013/14 league fixtures are released on Wednesday at 9am when as usual they will be available on TWTD.

Good local one for me too....although the kind of game we usually get unstuck with. Hopefully things will be different under MM.

What a surprise - an away tie!! Tough one this - I wonder if MM will try some players out or take it seriously?

Colchester v Peterborough looks like a decent tie.

There quite literally is no such thing as a good draw in the first round of the league cup! it's a pre-season friendly at best. I appreciate you have to win these games to get to some decent fixtures but can't get excited about it I'm afraid. Roll on Wed morning when the real fixtures come out.

Not a bad tie, just hope we can sail through to the next round comfortably.

Not a bad tie but you can slate me for saying this, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we lose. No one really thinks this is a big trophy to compete in anymore and i think this year we should just go for the league with no distractions.

Stretchyboy- apparently were massive in Herts! I had no idea there were this many of us either! Could explain Watfords poor home crowds? That or the stand that is still made out of wood... Seems as though you're only ever a mile away from a town fan in this county haha!

Absolutely Buzzing For This Game. My mate who I have worked with for 5 years is a major Stevenage fan and every year we say...we'll never get you in the cup, it'll never happen, and this year it has! Even with Patrick Agyemang up front last season Who only scored 1goal in 16 games, Stevenage still managed to stay in the too 6 for just over 1/2 of last season. There definitely not a push over especially at home...this is an exciting game but by no means an easy one. Come on the town!!!!!

Stretchy - Yep - Good core of us in the county !!! Nice n local - last saw us there with the ressies when RK was around - sat two rows in front of his happy little face - Luke Hyam was skipper , Old School type ground - got their old Manager back - Westley - decent team - who could challenge for Play Offs next season - a decent test

Better to win the league than the League Cup - MM, don't take your eyes off the prize

By no means an easy game but local and a good test for the fringe players

Last time I went to Stevenage was twice in one week to see Led Zeppelin play at Knebworth. Might be time for a return visit. Don't think it will live up to that gig though.

Excellent! Just up the road from my home in St Albans. Let's hope we do better than that pre-season friendly a few years back!
