Jones Would Consider Chopra Move
Monday, 22nd Jul 2013 17:00

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones says he would consider re-signing Blues striker Michael Chopra. Jones was Chopra’s manager at Cardiff and says he keeps in touch with the 29-year-old frontman, who was made available for transfer by Town at the end of last season despite having a year left on his contract.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Jones said: “If Chops is available, it’s something that we’d consider.

“I know Chops well and I know he’s had a lot of problems over the last couple of years and I’m sure there would be plenty of questions asked whoever took him.

"But Chops on his day is a quality goalscorer and it’s something that I would have to sit down with the chairman and the player and look at if we were.”

Regarding reported talks with Chopra and the Blues, Jones revealed that the striker is amongst a number of his former players he keeps in regular contact with: “I spoke to him in the summer, we didn’t speak about signing or whatever. He phones me up now and again to see how my family are, I’ll do the same with him.

“That’s just a conversation, if that then leads on to people saying we’re after him or whatever, I can’t do anything about that.”

Meanwhile, Chopra is reported to have held talks with Barnsley today, the Tykes also having been linked with a move for the former England U21 international over the weekend.

Shame it hasn't worked out for Chopra & ITFC. There was not one poster who didn't want him at PR 2 years ago.

He came back from pre-season & the US super fit. 19 on the bleep test, so no one can say he wasn't up for it. Scored at Watford but then got ground down in a very poor, PJ run side, playing up front on his own.

Still the best natural goalscorer we have by a country mile. MM will need to replace him for sure, when he goes.
