Duo to Be Assessed Ahead of Notts County Trip
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 15:00

Midfielders Cole Skuse and Paul Anderson will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s final friendly of pre-season at Notts County (KO 3pm). Skuse suffered a knee problem at Colchester on Tuesday, while Anderson has missed the last two games due to a minor hamstring injury.

New loan signing Ryan Tunnicliffe looks set to play some part, probably from the bench.

Town currently have a 100% record at all levels during pre-season and manager Mick McCarthy will want to continue that against the League One Magpies.

Former Blues striker and coach Chris Kiwomya is currently the boss at Meadow Lane, while another ex-Town man Danny Haynes has joined his squad this summer. One-time Town U18s skipper Callum Bennett has recently been on trial with County.

Speaking in an interview in tomorrow’s programme, Kiwomya says he has fond memories of his years with the Blues: “The year we went up to the Premiership and I was top scorer, it was such a good time.

“I can remember my first goal against Walsall and then two against Villa in the quarter-finals of the [League] Cup and then scoring at Old Trafford - great memories. The town was buzzing and playing against all the big sides and it was a great feeling.”

“I’m excited for the game - it’s going to be weird!” continued. “I’ve got a lot of friends coming to the game and I’m looking forward to welcoming Mick McCarthy.”

I met Chris Kiwomya at Northwood FC last summer. He was watching his nephew Alex play for Chelsea U-21's in a pre-season friendly. We had a chat and he was a lovely lad. He wasn't bitching but bemoaning the lack of youth talent coming through at the time under Paul Jewell. He spoke highly of Bryan Klug and was very complimentary of the club in general. A lovely guy and this was a few week unfortunately before his young son passed away. A Town legend for me and I hope he goes on to have a succesful managerial career.

Hope Notts County do well this year for Chris. Danny Haynes will tear League One up.
