McGoldrick: Happy With Start But More to Come Friday, 16th Aug 2013 06:04 David McGoldrick is content with his own and Town’s start to the season — but he believes there is better to come. The striker, signed on a two-year permanent deal after a successful loan spell from Nottingham Forest, is now looking forward to getting off the mark with his first goal of the new campaign. McGoldrick, 25, said: “I’m happy with things so far. I put in an okay performance at Reading, then at Stevenage I maybe could have nicked a goal after I came on. “I should have scored against Millwall when I had a one-on-one chance but I’ve been told as a striker that the main thing is being there for the chances and to start worrying when you’re not getting them. “I’m confident and I scored a few in pre-season games but it’s all about team performances and putting points on the board. I’ve only had two starts and there are a lot of strikers out there who still haven’t scored this season so it’s not an issue at all. “The Millwall game was my first 90 minutes this season and I got a bit of cramp after about 87 minutes but other than that I’m getting to where I want to be fitness-wise. I thought I played okay but I’ve got to keep it up because there are other strikers chomping at the bit to take my place.” McGoldrick netted four times in 13 Championship appearances last term as Town successfully avoided crashing into League One, where his 16 goals in 22 loan outings for Coventry made him a target for Town and others. He has not set himself a target this season, adding: “I’m not a player who does that but at the same time I’m confident that I will score. I just need to play games because strikers have runs of scoring and my feeling is that if I play enough games I will score goals. “I’m not going to put a number on it, just so long as they are vital and help to earn us plenty of points. Murph and I work well together and we scored a few in pre-season, which probably helped the manager to pick his team. “But Frank Nouble and Paul Taylor are looking really sharp in training and the gaffer will have to throw them in soon if Murph and I aren’t scoring. We know it’s up to us to produce.” Meanwhile, McGoldrick has confirmed he will be taking any spotkicks awarded this season. He said: “I’m on the penalties. So far it’s one in one and that’s all I can say about my record here.”
