Marsh-Brown Happy With Bees
Tuesday, 10th Sep 2013 09:30

Barnet winger Keanu Marsh-Brown has confirmed that there were clubs interested in him prior to the transfer window closing last week but says he's currently happy with the Bees.

Town were claimed to have made an enquiry regarding the 21-year-old on deadline day, although we understand that the Blues’ interest has not yet gone that far.

Town U21s coach Mark Kennedy has been spotted at the Hive this season, chief scout Steve McCall was at the Bees' 3-0 victory at Braintree last month in which Marsh-Brown scored and other members of the Blues staff have also watched the former Fulham trainee in action. However, contrary to reports, Town did not make an approach for the Londoner.

Marsh-Brown told the Harrow Observer that there were sides interested in him during the transfer window but after an unsettled couple of years says he was happy to stay with Barnet: “There were a few teams interested in signing me from League One and League Two, as well as one from the Championship.

“I loved playing here [last season], especially with the boys and the staff. It is a shame we went down, but we want to get the club back into League Two.”

The wideman says manager Edgar Davids is a big part of why he’s enjoying life with the Bees: “It was a major part why I stayed. Training is great, it is the way I like to play.

“Everything’s technical, and it is a great achievement playing under Edgar; not everyone can say that they have played under him. He is a great player and manager.

“I just want to get my football back on track. If this means staying here for a couple more years, then that’s what I’ll do. I want to become a better player and push on with the team.”

I admire his loyalty and I can see why he would want to learn under a great player like Edgar Davids, but at 21 and languishing in the Conference does this show a lack of ambition and confidence in his own ability?

I think his attitude is admirable, he's enjoying learning his trade and getting games under his belt at a good club with a high profile manager. If he was 24/25 and not wanting to make the step up you could question his ambition but at the moment this is a glove that obviously fits for him and I wish him well.

Can't say i've seen much of him, but he definitely fits the mould of the young and pacey winger that i think we're in desperate need of.

He has to say these things unless the interest in him becomes more solid. There is no way he would turn down a chance to join a club three divisions higher!

Living in Yeovil, i saw them on numerous occasions when he played for them. And unless something incredible has happened at Barnet, he is not good enough for us. He is quick, and an actual winger, but his final ball is hideous. No where near the standard we need

If it's between playing regularly for a conference team or making up the numbers in the U21 squad then it's an easy decision. Perhaps the best next step would be a loan deal with an option to buy - that way if he fails to make the step up then he has a safety net and can return to Barnet with added experience rather than end up languishing with a nice contract but no first team games.

Stability is a very important asset in modern football, he's clearly a sensible lad, favouring stability over money does not suggest he lacks ambition to me. He merely wants to develop by playing regularly in a setup he knows. Would he get that at Town?

You only have to look at Connor Wickham to see what happens when a player moves too soon.

Echoing xome of the commetns above, he is currently playing week in week out, in a winning (so far at least) team. The Hive training facility is as good as anything outside of the top two divisions, and an match for many of those in the championship. Taking into account win bonuses, and the cost of commuting / moving to Suffolk, would he really be any better off playing reserve pteam football and warming the bench up here? Although there is no mention of a concrete offer, Barnet have always allowed players to leave to better their careers, so any interest would have been passed on to Marsh-Brown for his consideration.

Up The Bees!
