Cresswell Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 11th Dec 2013 16:46

Left-back Aaron Cresswell has signed a new contract with the Blues, extending his terms to June 2017.

The 23-year-old has been repeatedly linked with Premier League clubs, West Brom were said to be watching him earlier in the week, with manager Mick McCarthy believing he is the best left-back in the Championship.

The former Tranmere player told the club site: “I had about 18 months to run on my contract so obviously I’m delighted to have extended that.

“I am really enjoying my football here. There is a good feel about the place and it’s enjoyable coming to work every day.

“I feel I have progressed as a player and like any professional, I want to get to the top and that means playing in the Premier League. Hopefully I can do that with Ipswich.”

The Liverpudlian, who is 24 on Sunday, joined Town on July 1st 2011 at the end of his contract with Tranmere. A tribunal set terms which eventually saw the Blues pay Rovers £420,000 after a number of top-up clauses were triggered. The League One club are entitled to 20% of the profit Town make on any future sale.

On an unrelated note, as joint managing director of the club, you'd have thought Jonathan Symonds would at least wear a tie, rather than a salmon pink shirt with 2-3 buttons undone. Looks a like a second hand car salesman....poor form imo !

Cresswell has probably just had a 2 grand a week pay rise but it looks like all he is thinking is - 'who the f@ck is this lard boy- get me away from him before he explodes' very oily handshake no doubt

Maybe the "FAT" guy on the left will become our goalie, and with his size it will be almost impossible for the opposition to score...
His probable idea of exercise is to journey in by car and take the LIFT to get to his workplace and then sit down to recover for the next few hours with some cakes.

Westcountryblue - exactly the first thing I thought too. Either a used car salesman or one of the local bailiffs

According to this morning's press, WBA have no money to spend in January.

Very good news.

Personally, I do not think ME will allow such a great asset as Cresswell to be sold for anything other than silly money.

If ME is ever going to get back any of the money he has invested in ITFC, OR if we are going to stop running at an annual loss, ITFC MUST be in the Premiership.

Keeping top class players like Cresswell is the key to that.
