East Anglian Derby in Bowls Final
Wednesday, 22nd Jan 2014 22:03

There’s an East Anglian derby in the world of bowls on Thursday afternoon when Town supporter Katherine Rednall takes on Norwich-based Rebecca Field in the final of the Just Retirement Ladies World Matchplay Singles at the Potters Resort in Hopton, Norfolk (BBC2 1pm).

Baylham-based Rednall, who only turned 18 earlier this month, is the tournament’s youngest ever finalist.

The Stowmarket High School pupil, who was a runner-up in the World Mixed Pairs earlier this week, beat former champion Alison Merrien in today’s semi-final. More on the World Bowls Tour website.

I can not believe this is a news story.

Ridiculous bias in reporting, especially when you consider that you have not mentioned the Inter County Tidderlywinks Premier League match being played next Tuesday evening at Attlebridge Village Hall. Dave "The Suffolk Punch" Higginbottom from Melton (Doris' newphew- she's 84 you know) is taking on Bill "Six Toes" Felcher from Fundenhall. Its going to be a classic. COME ON YOU HIGGERS!! COYH

Come on Phil. A little bit of a broader spectrum of sports please.

Will Delia Smith make a cameo appearance and run on to the hallowed turf at half time all p*ssed up on Mild Ale and Sherry and start shouting at everyone? Don't know about you, but it seems like her sort of scene and I truly believe this could happen?!?!?

No one on here has had the decency to congratulate Katherine, although I have only played the game once whilst staying at Potters. It is an interesting sport and I would say at the moment just as exciting as seeing Ipswich Town play;which at present isn't much more exciting than watching paint dry.
Well done young lady.

Would probably have given this a mention any day, as I've done with Town fans reaching other similar finals in other sports, such as Kevin Painter at darts for example.

Katherine is a regular visitor at Portman Road so your mention was indeed in order.
Guess the prospect of a world champion from Ipswich is inconsequential to some, great shame really.

Good Luck Katherine :-)

We'll done, Phil. Bowls is an interesting sport and has a big following. Any mention of it always proviokes stupid comments from the ignoramuses among us.
