Draw Sees U15s Finish Third
Friday, 8th Aug 2014 20:10

Town’s U15s drew 1-1 with Scunthorpe in their final group game at the Macron Galway Cup.

Dan Muamba, younger brother of former Bolton midfielder Fabrice, scored the young Blues’ goal, while Andre Dozzell, who was called up to the England U16s earlier today, missed a penalty.

The result saw the U15s finish third in the group, while a win would have seen them through to Saturday’s final rather than the third/fourth play-off, where they will play Israeli club Maccabi Haifa.

Earlier today, Town beat Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara 3-1, while they beat DC United 3-2 in their opening game, then lost 4-2 to the Republic of Ireland and drew 0-0 with Saturday's play-off opponents Maccabi Haifa.

The competition, which is played at Salthill Devon’s Drom training facility, is widely considered one of the best youth tournaments in Europe.

The Blues won the Elite U15 Cup that they are competing in this year in 2007 and finished runners-up in 2010, while Josh Carson was the Player of the Tournament in 2008 when Town went out at the semi-final stage.

Meanwhile, Town's U18s are in friendly derby action on Saturday morning when Norwich City are the visitors to Playford Road (KO 11am).
