McGoldrick Could Be Added to Ireland Squad
Thursday, 30th Oct 2014 09:07

Town striker David McGoldrick could be added to the Republic of Ireland squad for next month’s games against Scotland and the USA, manager Martin O’Neill has revealed.

Yesterday, Blues frontmen Daryl Murphy and Conor Sammon were named in a provisional 36-man squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland at Celtic Park on Friday 14th November and a friendly with the USA at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin four days later.

The paperwork relating to McGoldrick’s qualification is close to being completed and Derby’s Cyrus Christie is in a similar position.

“It does seem to take an eternity to sort out but I don’t think there’s any real serious issues outstanding so there is the possibility of those two being available,” O’Neill said.

“I’ve watched David a few times and seen an awful lot of Cyrus, who has been doing exceptionally well.”

Nottingham-born McGoldrick announced in February that he was keen to play for Ireland, having confirmed he qualifies via both his adoptive and biological parents.

The big worry for MM has to be town players picking up injuries whilst on international duty particularly friendlies.

Please no. Don't want him to get injured. Focus on Town DIDZ.

Seems to be praising Cyrus Christie an awful lot in this report.

If Keane has a say (and he will have a massive say) : he'll favour Murphy and Sammon any day over Didz. Not Keanes type of player.

Keane has continuously praised Sammon in every report for us (Ireland). They have started him in a number of games and he's used to partnering Long/Robbie Keane etc.

There is a great chance for us to qualify this time round, but I simply can't see Didz getting in the team.

Wouldn't mind, but do worry about trusting Ipswich Town talent with the coaching methods of Roy Keane ever again in any shape or form for club or country.

Very selfish for fans not to want him to get picked in case he gets injured. Surely inclusion in the Irish squad would be deserved recognition of all the hard work and dedication he's been putting in?
