Jonny Parr has declared himself satisfied with his form so far in his debut season for Town, although he agrees the task to hold down a regular place is a difficult one.

Parr, signed on a free transfer following his release by Crystal Palace, was unavailable through injury for the first few games of the season but since making his debut at Derby at the end of August he has played 14 games and only been on the losing side once.

He said: “I am pleased with my own form. It was tough to get back into the team after I was out with an injury and they were doing really well without me. What can you do? You just have to work hard and be ready and wait for your chance again. I did that and now I just want to stay in and keep on playing.

“I had a little injury and as I was regaining my fitness the team was winning virtually every game. I spoke with the manager and he told me the team was doing well and there wasn’t much I could do, except to keep working hard and be ready when I got my chance again.

“That’s what I did. It’s great that we have so many players who can come in and do such a great job. It shows we have a good, strong squad. Of course, we all want to play every game but that’s not possible. Someone has to be on the bench.”

Pass has deputised at left-back for infected toe victim Tyrone Mings in the recent wins over promotion rivals Middlesbrough and Brentford but earlier in the campaign demonstrated his versatility by slotting into a defensive role on the opposite flank.

He added: “I am a left-back. That’s where I have played most of the time in my career but I have played a few games at right-back as well. I am comfortable on my right foot so at the moment it is not a big difference for me where I play.

“I actually got my first professional contract in Norway as a striker and then started playing on the wing. We had some injuries and I switched to full-back and I just stayed there.

“I’m really enjoying it and attacking is still a big part of my game. I want to contribute assists and goals if possible but of course the main job is to defend.”

There could hardly be a more demanding assignment than to keep the fit-again Mings out of the side after the 21-year-old has recently been linked with moves for as much as £10 million to some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

Parr said: “Tyrone has done really well this year. There is good competition for most spots in the first team and no matter where you play it’s tough to keep your place. It keeps everyone on their toes and if you are not in the team at least you are pushing those who are to do even better.”
