Town Advise Fans to Buy Southampton Tickets Online With 8,000 Sold Today
Wednesday, 7th Jan 2015 15:53

Town are advising supporters wanting tickets for next Wednesday’s FA Cup third round replay against Southampton to buy them online at ITFC Direct with today's queue at Planet Blue being cut off at 4pm. The Blues have sold more than 8,000 tickets today and more than 13,000 in total.

A club statement on Twitter reads: “For the attention of supporters looking to buy tickets in person today, please be aware that the queue will cease at 4pm.

“This is due to the huge demand from supporters today. We strongly advise purchasing online, where there isn't a queue.”

Those still wishing to purchase their tickets in person can return to Planet Blue tomorrow.

Queues at Planet Blue have been lengthy all day with tickets currently on sale to Platinum, Gold and Silver members as well as season ticket holders - whose seats are reserved until 9am on Saturday - with general sale starting at 9am on Friday.

An overall sell-out seems unlikely as the Saints probably won't take up their full allocation for the match which falls between Premier League away trips to Manchester United and Newcastle.

Portman Road's last sell-out was the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final with Arsenal in January 2011.

As long as the Cobbold Terrace is full as that will be the main focus of the TV cameras!

Cobbold should be good. It's usually the ends of the top tiers of the stands that look a little threadbare when we're at a good capacity.

Somewhat of a miracle happened this morning, I logged on at 08:57 and buy 09:08 had managed to buy 3 tickets for the game. Compare this to the nightmare experience just prior to Christmas when trying to purchase 12 tickets (Christmas presents £300's worth) both in person at the PR shop and on line for this coming Saturdays game against Derby, which resulted in 2 wasted return journeys (85miles) to PR shop and 4 premium rate phone calls lasting well over an hour in total, before managing to speak to someone prepared to listen to the customer (Paul) who took ownership and resolved what should have always been a quite simple transaction. For a club that's allegedly desperate to attract new supporters, they appear to do whatever's necessary to antagonise the supporters they do have. There is so much the club could do to enhance the supporters experience, whilst at the same time increasing their own revenue streams, all it would take is a customer orientate Commercial Manager. I could go on but won't. Rant over!!

Just saying but if it was my shop, and I had a queue of customers, I would keep it open to sell more of my wares. 4pm or not, staff can easily be found to man a till. Would the Earth have stopped spinning if they stayed open until 5pm or 6 or 7 etc? 2 tills, 2 staff, 6 hours pay at a generous £10ph would not have hurt ITFC and PR wise would have earned quite a few brownie points with fans. Maybe something to think about tomorrow rather than tell fans to go home and get on the computer. On another note, there's something a bit magical and exciting about going and getting your ticket from the ground, especially for young fans who are exactly who we the club MUST be looking to get involved.

Going a bit further, rather than this story in the media, why not turn it around completely, have a couple of players in the shop heping to sell the tickets or shaking hands with fans and even get one of the top brass manning a till for half an hour. Whip up a bit of a PR storm, get people excited and talking about it.

Crazy to have such little flexibility in a ticketing system, is it a Union Member!
If you have customers, stay open. Don't force people to buy when they can't or if they are not IT savy go online.
Come on town you want to fill the ground, sort it out.

Managed to get tickets online relatively easily despite the 30 minute wait for the website!

But it's another ridiculous policy by the management at ITFC to close the ticket office for sales, surely yesterday proves that not everyone wants to buy online but in person. The ground is filling with fans these days why not try and make it easy for them to buy tickets and not put them off! If they don't want to employ people to man the phones permanently, just put on extra staff at times like this!?

Other Clubs use there turnstiles to sell tickets for big games, labelling the turnstiles for differant stands, also tickets are already printed out so no need for computers.
