McCarthy Confirms Sammon Exit
Wednesday, 14th Jan 2015 22:47

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that striker Conor Sammon has left the club with his season-long loan having been ended early. The Derby striker is now expected to join Rotherham with Huddersfield also having shown interest.

“Conor came here to play games and, of course, he did when he came and then he’s not played,” McCarthy said.

“He wants to progress his career. He had 12 months last year at Derby not playing games, so he wanted to play and there are other clubs that wanted him.

“We got him on a 12-month loan but I think it’s completely unfair that if he’s not going to play I’m depriving him of playing and sorting his own career out, so he’s moved on.”

The 28-year-old scored one goal in eight starts and 12 sub appearances for the Blues.

McCarthy confirmed that he’ll now be looking for another striker: “I’ve still got Noel Hunt, who couldn’t play because he wasn’t registered for the FA Cup.

“We’ll be looking, I’ve got to do. I’ve got to keep looking because the squad’s so thin at the moment.”
