McCarthy Confirms Sammon Exit
Wednesday, 14th Jan 2015 22:47

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that striker Conor Sammon has left the club with his season-long loan having been ended early. The Derby striker is now expected to join Rotherham with Huddersfield also having shown interest.

“Conor came here to play games and, of course, he did when he came and then he’s not played,” McCarthy said.

“He wants to progress his career. He had 12 months last year at Derby not playing games, so he wanted to play and there are other clubs that wanted him.

“We got him on a 12-month loan but I think it’s completely unfair that if he’s not going to play I’m depriving him of playing and sorting his own career out, so he’s moved on.”

The 28-year-old scored one goal in eight starts and 12 sub appearances for the Blues.

McCarthy confirmed that he’ll now be looking for another striker: “I’ve still got Noel Hunt, who couldn’t play because he wasn’t registered for the FA Cup.

“We’ll be looking, I’ve got to do. I’ve got to keep looking because the squad’s so thin at the moment.”

"I've got to keep looking" rather suggests that suitable candidates are not going to be easy to find and that there's no-one in the immediate pipeline. It's too simple to say "we must ..." The problem is that everyone else is looking too, and most have a lot more cash than us. Still, Mick has done wonders and in him I trust. I'm just amazed he manages to keep his cool in the face of the negativity some of our fans show. COYB!

Have faith in Mick, he will reel another striker in, a proven shark in the transfer market. Either that or we'll go Blue Peter and make one out of stickleback plastic.

Not bothered that he has gone - good luck to him.

We do need another striker though as Bajner doesn't look great either. If Murphy or McGoldrick were injured it would be a big problem for us. Hopefully Mick will find someone.

Glen Murray. Do it.

Kevin Doyle seems the logical choice, he's available, Mick knows him and he has no future at Wolves.

If we could get Glenn Murray that would be awsome but if he is leaving palace then its seems Reading have him sewn up. Who ever it is will either be a free of a loan.

I would take Doyle until the end of the season. Chris Wood would be my choice but I think Leicester want to sell rather than loan, would also take Nugent but thats pie in the sky

Kevin Doyle probably has no future at Wolves because he plays for Crystal Palace.

Nice guy and hardworking player but never appeared to fit in or to be good enough.

Billy Sharp must be worth a punt, proven at this level, not doing much at his present club and fit and back to match fitness as good as if not better than what we have so would be proper competition for our front 2

Tried his best but doesn't score goals. Finally, mick acknowledges the squad is thin. More players leaving today, so surely we need three or four in. Striker a must and a jonny Williams type player.
