Sharp Talks Ongoing
Friday, 16th Jan 2015 13:56

TWTD understands that Town are continuing talks with Leeds United regarding the move for striker Billy Sharp we revealed this morning. The 28-year-old is out of favour at Elland Road, having joined them on a two-year deal last summer.

The Blues are likely to be keen to agree a loan deal, but the Whites may want Sharp, who has made only nine starts and nine sub appearances, scoring two goals, off their books permanently.

Sharp started his career with hometown club Sheffield United but made only two senior sub appearances before moving on to Rushden and Diamonds in January 2005.

The striker impressed with the Northamptonshire club and six months later joined Scunthorpe.

His goalscoring form for the Iron won him a move back to the Blades in the summer of 2007 but again having failed to make his mark at Bramall Lane, he moved out on loan to Doncaster before signing a permanent deal at the Keepmoat Stadium in September 2009.

Town boss Paul Jewell repeatedly tried to sign Sharp in the summer of 2011 but he remained with the South Yorkshire club.

In November that year, Sharp received an ovation from the Town support after he scored at Portman Road soon after the death of his newborn son Luey, something the frontman later described as a “special thing”.

Sharp subsequently moved on to Southampton in January 2012 before loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Reading and back at Doncaster prior to joining Leeds in August last year. The Whites handed the Saints £600,000 to cover paying up his contract at St Mary's.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is still keen to add to his striking options, despite having signed Colchester’s Freddie Sears earlier today with David McGoldrick a doubt ahead of tomorrow’s game at Millwall due to a knee injury.

Sharp could be involved in the Town squad for the Millwall game if a loan deal is agreed by noon tomorrow.

Don't expect he has forgotten about the reception he received previously;but footys a funny old game.
Now splash out and get Jonny on loan or permanent and this should be sufficient for a real tilt at the title or at least the playoffs.

If a loan spell isn't appealing for him, what would be a realistic price for a permanent contract?

Exactly the kind of "waspish" player I was saying about after the saints game, and now we go for two the same day!

Hope we get Billy Sharpe he is a proven fox in the box striker.
I believe he is one of Leeds highest earners will it be loan or permenent ?
Ive been looking at a few of Leeds forums and there is no latest news on him joining us only speculation that said alot of Leeds fans sound well peed off if Sharpe leaves.

The midfield passer you all crave is already in our camp. His name is Kevin Bru. If Skuse plays beside him we will see Bru using his guile to create. He is so much more technically gifted than most of you give credit for. In my opinion anyway.

By the way the number 17 is Massimo Cellino's unlucky number so the talks cannot drag on until tomorrow!

Assuming Didsy is staying, getting new strikers in will hopefully be the push he needs to get back to his best.....

Im not sure he'll ever get his pre injury form back. It was a bad injury and he's looking to be trying too hard almost to get back to pre injury form.

Blue Again: We already have that midfielder. . . David McGoldrick. It's just a tactical switch. Put DM into midfield. We still have Daryl Murphy and Freddie Sears and hopefully Billy Sharpe.
I have mentioned this before. Parr was originally a striker. Rock on you blues!!

Fingers crossed cos I don't think we will be seeing McGoldrick play for a few weeks. Unconfirmed reports that he may be out 4-6 weeks.

Are the lights still on at Portman Road or have they all adjourned to the local kebab house?

McGoldrick in midfield when fit, a must, he could be what has been missing, a real player that could supply and score. I have said this for a long time...might well happen?

Excellent news if he signs. Would really give a boost to the squad. Seers too I am happy about. This could be the shot in the arm that the club needs, to get a top-2 finish.

MM is so quick with his transfers. So glad we have MM and TC.

Happy times!

Keep refreshing page to see if he has signed!! M and M have been great this season but every striker no matter how good goes through a barren spell so this would be a great signing IMO
