Derby Back to Second
Tuesday, 17th Feb 2015 22:30

Town remain fourth in the Championship following this evening’s fixtures, but are now two points behind all the top three.

Derby (goal difference: 30) moved back to second after drawing 3-3 away against Rotherham, equal on 59 points with leaders Bournemouth (33) and Middlesbrough (28), who drop to third but play Birmingham in their game in hand tomorrow. The Blues (19) are on 57.

The Millers, who beat Town 2-0 10 days ago, were 3-1 in front with less than half an hour remaining with ex-Blues loanee Paul Green amongst the scorers.

But Tom Ince netted his second of the night before former Town frontman Darren Bent grabbed the equaliser with seven minutes left on the clock.

Elsewhere, Saturday’s opponents Reading lost 1-0 at home to Wigan, while Cardiff drew 1-1 with Blackburn at the Cardiff City Stadium.

BluesandTrues.Bournemouth did try but didn't succeed.
We did buy two strikers in Hunt and Sears who has scored one since he signed. Not sure if Noel has scored since he signed on 8th Jan;but no doubt Derbys two Ince and Bent are far superior at present.
I think majority on here would agree that Marcus Evans has not shown ambition in that he was not prepared to do what Derby have done in the window; which is surprising bearing in mind how much the club owes him.Getting to the Premiership would ensure he would get his money back.

Agree Bent and Ince are performing for Derby but we did try for Sharp too but he didnt want to come.

Derby have broken the bank for it though. Sadly its not as simple as some like to think. The players need to be avaialble, afforadable and want to come. What ME is doing is trying to make the club sustainable which long term is a good thing.

All this paranoia (and im not suggesting there is any of that in your post seasider) that ME dosnt want prem football is rubbish, he wont get his money back any other way so the only reason we are taking the approach we are is because finanncially we are restricted in such a way. The fact that Learner cant sell Villa who are a huge Prem side is proof of that, as is Everton who are a huge club in European competition, they have been seeking investment for years and failed to find it, so ME cant sell the club, no one is buying.

Yes we could say sod it and break the rules but Forrest show that clubs will be punished so its a bit catch 22 because getting to the prem would be great but if we are punished should we then come back down suddenly we have our hands tied when in fact that is that is the ideal time to strenghten more for a second push. QPR if they drop will be the litmus test and we can cut our cloth accordingly. Many teams have yoyod before establishing consistant top flight presence, WBA case in point.

All that is beside the point I was making at this stage though which is Bouremouth have not strenghtened and currently remain top, so a failure to add dosnt alway mean failure to push on in the latter part of the season.Im not saying new signings would not help but the loan window remains open so still TBC.

Im not saying I wont welcome more additions nor that I dont want them because I would and I do just making the point that again, its a funny old game and never runs to course. Some people think its just follow a flow chart to footballing success but football just like life simply dosnt pan out that way.

That said I do understand why people feel lke we have not shown enough ambition transfer wise, nor do I disagree with the point per say. As per just a remider that a level headed approach is usaually the best I guess

Derby have got quality in on loans and it shows...but agree with @warktheline - no games now are going to be pushovers particularly the teams trying to get away from the relegation zone (as per always), going to be very interesting few months coming up. One things for sure I'll keep away from the Championship on my pools coupon! :)
