Wood Set to Join Town
Friday, 27th Feb 2015 09:15

Leicester City striker Chris Wood is set to join the Blues on loan in time for Sunday's East Anglian derby with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The 23-year-old has been linked with the Blues since early last month with Wolves and Reading both having shown interest in the last few days, while AFC Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday were previously understood to be keen to add him to their squads for the run-in.

Wood, Tommy Smith’s room-mate when they are on international duty with New Zealand, is yet to start for the Foxes since their promotion to the Premier League, having scored eight goals last season, four in the Championship, four in the Capital One Cup.

Born in Auckland, Wood started his British career with West Brom, spending time out on loan with Barnsley, Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol City, Millwall and Leicester before joining the Foxes permanently for £2 million in January 2013.

Wood's last senior action was a 30-minute sub appearance in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle on January 3rd and the 6ft 2in tall frontman returned to training after an ankle injury earlier in the week.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been keen to add another striker to his squad with Noel Hunt probably out for the season with a knee injury, while David McGoldrick has missed the last four matches with a thigh problem.

The Blues also struggled when without target man Daryl Murphy in the recent game against Wigan.

This is seriously good news and if he is fit and well put him in on Sunday as will ruffle their feathers.
feel a lot happier now----at least we are doing thing positive now to solve our problems as opposed to nothing last year-----see you all Sunday!!

I'm really encouraged by this if it happens still young and great potential for the future if it works out. I know Millwall supporters were very disappointed to lose him.
Could be an instant hero at Carrow Road.
I just hope Parr starts at RB and Chambers moves to CB - they are far too quick to risk a non fullback with so much on this match.
I really want to see us go 4 3 3 and make them defend against us - none of this trying to hold out and hit on the break, we might as well go down fighting from the start.

He's here as an alt to Murph, he a good impact sub, strong and tough. I imagine he is here to cover murph if he gets ingjured and to come on and replace murph as both a taget man and a man to get on the end of corners/crosses.

Varney on the other hand is here to generally come on late and act as wind up merchant.

To my mind logic says, if all are fit. Onw would have MCG behnd Sears and Murph with MCG and Sears effectivly interchanging to confuse te opposition.

Wood would then be able to come on as an imapact sub and replace any of those, either direct for Murph, in for MCG and switch to a proper front 3 or on for sears with either MCG going up as a central point of fron 3 or remaining in the hole to create and bomb forward.

Thats what master tactician BlueandTrue woud do anyway.

I like Chris Wood and logic says if he came long term he would leran from then inherit Murphs mantle

Are we sure something isn't happening with Didz? Seems strange

Chris wood is good at this level and may give Tommy Smith some confidence

I am very happy with this.
At the start of the Transfer window I would have wanted him in preference to Sharp, Murray or any other striker lined (including Freddie Sears, although I'm well pleased with him).
The other signing I wanted was Jonny Williams, or a creative player in his ilk should he be injured/unavailable, so I'm still hoping that NIck Powell will join us for the run in to Promotion.
Come on Town.

Bring in Shola Ameobi too!

Maybe even Ulrich Le Pen if he's still about..

In all fairness, Wood is decent at this level. Quite fancy him, Murph and Freddie running at Michael 'the bus' Turner et al

WOOD is a good signing but unless MM is keeping something from us aren't we getting a bit top heavy with forwards/attacking players? I fear DMc days are numbered

Definately a good signing on paper, but where would woods fit in? I was more excited about the French winger joining as we are really lacking that creative spark in our midfield. Where will the supply come from to feed these strikers! Nevertheless, if woods comes in and starts banging the goals in I would happily eat my slice of humble pie.

I think this is a top signing by MM at this stage when nerves and form are edgy great option at this level to have . Well done to all concerned for making this happen .
MM flexing his muscles towards Dids attitude , you don't like it we will move on ?

A great deal of excitement on this board so let us hope it pans out. Sunday is the most important match we have played for years and what happens depends entirely on whom Mick chooses to play and the position in which he plays them! I like the look of Len Brennan;s choice, let us hope MM agrees too!

30 minutes match time since Jan 3. I think you are deluded if you think he will start on Sunday.

I hope he plays like the youtube clips posted above by Brendenwrad35 - seems anything through on the ground for him to run onto gets dispatched goal wards and he doesn't hang about he just hits it.
I would love for someone to get the winner by charging down the keeper and getting smacked in the face to score. I've always felt that a lucky 1 - 0 win is somehow preferable to spanking the budgies. It really p!$$3SS them off - and I should know all my in-laws support them

Surco72 - McGoldrick is INJURED, how do you know he has an attitude? He was our best player for the first half of the season. Our fans have such short memories. Latterly he was clearly carrying an injury and probably a little frustrated out there because of it. It happens to players but i for one would love him to get fit again and hit top form. The guy is a very good player and has served us well.
