Town Looking to Make Late Addition as Clubs Fight for Williams
Thursday, 26th Mar 2015 15:24

TWTD understands that Town are now looking to make an addition to their squad before this afternoon’s 5pm emergency loan deadline, with the Blues believed to be in a four-way fight for former loanee Jonny Williams.

It had appeared that Blues boss Mick McCarthy was happy to stick with the players currently at his disposal but the club are now working on making a further signing with Williams thought to be that player.

This morning the South London Press reported that the Blues, Fulham, Wolves and Watford had all made enquiries to Crystal Palace regarding Wales international Williams, who recently returned to training having been out of action since suffering a groin injury midway through his spell at Town in November.

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has now confirmed his interest in the 21-year-old, adding that the Molineux club are facing opposition from elsewhere: "Jonny Williams is a player we have made an enquiry for and expressed an interest in. But there's a lot of interest in him.”

Midlands sources report that Town, the Hornets and Cottagers are the clubs battling Wolves for Williams’s signature.

Although clubs are not allowed to take a player on two emergency loans in the same season, in situations such as Williams’s where a player had a spell cut short by injury then clause 53.3.12* of the Football League rules allows that loan to be restarted at the point the injury was suffered. Williams would have 53 days of his spell remaining.

*53.3.12 The Executive shall have discretion to extend the maximum duration of 93 days for an Emergency Loan in extenuating circumstances, such circumstances to be determined in the Executive’s absolute discretion.

52 days???

Does that mean he'd be unavailable for the Play-Off Final should we make it that far?

Has this changed since yesterday? Ian Milne confirmed they did explore the possibility of getting him back but the Football League rejected it?

Either way, exciting stuff that we are potentially looking to get two new faces in...

I hope we get him but I hope there isn't too much expectation that with him back we will bound to be in the top two. That's a lot of pressure on one signing.

If he has a choice, he has to come here. We're his second home!

Would be most upset if he chose one of the others over us considering the outpouring of love he's received from the Ipswich faithful. Cracking player, but I am a little concerned as now is not the time to aid his rehabilitation from injury.... we need to have players at the top of their game right now. Is a 50% fit Williams better than what we already have?

What a huge boost this would be, personally I struggle to see him going to Watford after what happened earlier in the season, you'd hope he still feels an allegiance to Town!

Come on Jonny!

Come on!! Just having JW on the bench for the last 20 mins of games could make all the difference. Fingers crossed...
Also, from now on, can we stop accusing MM/ME of doing nothing to strengthen the squad, just because they don't bleat the details to the media in advance? I've been so impressed with the way our transfers and contract negotiations/extensions have been handled this season. It's been a breathe of fresh air.
