Murphy: We Need to Aim to Win at Blackburn
Tuesday, 28th Apr 2015 17:56

Town’s 25-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy believes the Blues need to go into Saturday’s final match of the regular season at Blackburn looking to win, despite a point being enough to secure a play-off place (KO 12.15pm).

“We’ve got to go to Blackburn with the mentality of trying to win the game, it’s as simple as that,” Murphy told Ipswich Player.

“A point will be enough but we want to get the job done and set ourselves up for the play-offs.

“We’ve been up there for most of the season and now we’ve put ourselves into a good position with the win over Forest, we’ve just got to get over the line now.

“We’re all confident and looking forward to the game. Hopefully we can give ourselves a crack at getting into the Premier League by making the play-offs. It’s where we all want to be.”

Town could still finish in the top six even if they lose at Ewood Park if two of the results of the games involving Derby, Brentford and Wolves go in the Blues' favour.

Murphy, the first Town player to hit 25 league goals since Ray Crawford in the 1962/63 season, looks set to be named the Blues' Players' Player of the Year at this evening's sell-out End of Season Dinner at Milsoms, Kesgrave Hall.

Sky Sports will announce which of Saturday's Championship games they will show live tomorrow, following relegation-threatened Rotherham's home match against Reading this evening.

If we're going there to win then WE NEED TO HIT THE TARGET - unlike the Wolves game.

Football - It's a simple game overcomplicated at times by managers overcomplicating it.

PUT BALL IN NET MORE THAN OTHER TEAM.

if ever there was a game ( admittedly not very often) where parking the bus is the most sensible way, this is it. this is no time for pretty football. who knows when the next chance of the play-offs will occur.
we already have the 79th point required as the league table will show the minute the match kicks off. we just have to not lose it and packing our penalty area and goal line for 90 minutes is our best hope of ensuring it. why gamble on getting a winner when stopping them scoring is what is required?
how we play will be of no consequence after a draw but if we lose....... this forum will melt. ( I think we can safely assume that brentford will not slip up). que sera sera.

Just thought i'd play devils advocate! There will be two strikers on the fied who have more goals between them then the other sides two strikers, and they don't play for Blackburn! So why not give it a go?
