O'Neill Appointed Assistant Academy Manager Thursday, 6th Aug 2015 20:26 Lee O’Neill has been appointed to the new role of assistant academy manager, TWTD understands. O’Neill was a player with the Blues’ youth set-up in the late 1990s before going on to play for Woodbridge Town. The 33-year-old returned to the academy initially as a part-time coach in 2007. Until his appointment to his new position as Bryan Klug’s deputy, O'Neill was the academy’s head of sports science, having gained a degree from Loughborough University. Earlier this summer, he was with the first team in Germany for the friendly with Fortuna Düsseldorf with fitness coach Andy Liddell remaining behind and working with Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick and Christophe Berra, who started pre-season later than the rest of the squad. O’Neill is the son of Tommy O’Neill, a member of Town’s 1975 FA Youth Cup-winning team. Meanwhile, at the Macron Galway Cup in Ireland, the Blues’ U15s drew 1-1 with Kerry and beat Ballymoor 4-0 yesterday before defeating SDFC 00 4-2 this afternoon. Semi-finals and finals will be played on Friday and Saturday with the young Blues set to face Galway in the Plate semi-final tomorrow.
