Barnsley Youngster Joins On Loan
Saturday, 2nd Jan 2016 11:42

Town have signed 20-year-old Barnsley central midfielder Paul Digby on loan until the end of the season. He has joined the squad for the trip to Burnley but is ineligible for today's game.

Sheffield-born Digby came through the ranks at Oakwell and won their Most Promising Academy Player award in 2008.

Digby made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in September 2011 and has gone on to make 11 starts and 14 sub appearances for the Tykes. His only games this season were one League One start and two matches from the bench in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Capped by England at U19 and U20 levels, 6ft 4in tall Digby, who can also play at right-back, spent time on trial with Manchester United earlier this year. He is contracted until the summer of 2017.

Meanwhile, full-back Jonny Parr is interesting Strømsgodset and other clubs back in his native Norway, according to reports in Scandinavia.

The 27-year-old's contract with Town is up at the end of the season.

I thought MM wasn't signing anyone . Obviously false reporting as MM would never mislead us ! Shame about Parr but don't blame him at all if he leaves .

Hmmm interesting. Very disappointing if Parr goes, but perhaps his injuries but undeniable quality means the management team want to cut their potential losses financially while there's still a deal to be done.
Liked @DanLyle's suggestion of Pritchard for a loan from Spurs... Busy and strong attacking mid. Did a job in Championship last year.
And Mick's insistance on not needing additions to the squad is more to do with good business sense and keeping his cards close to his chest (again). It's just a very professional and sensible tactic that a man with his connections in the game can easily afford to employ.
Massive, massive luck (and success!) today in setting a new away-win record, lads.
COYB!!!!!

Well good luck to the lad. But we need big fish in a little pond not a small fish from a small pond .
Eg if he is playing out of his skin at barnsley then he will be worth a punt but if you can't break into a div 1 barnsley team then there isn't much hope.

Cresswell was not a vastly experienced young player when we bought him and you only have to look at the purchase of Tyrone Mings to see that promising youngsters are worth getting hold of. Just because he isn't playing regularly for Barnsley doesn't mean he hasn't got a lot of promise.
I doubt if MM has got him in for immediate inclusion in the 1st team squad but to have a look with a view to purchase at the end of the season. One for the future.

Only on loan? I assume this would be with a view to sign permanently after we've had a chance to have a proper look at him

A loaned player from a lower league club? I thought players usually went down the leagues on loan not up?

Bishops attitude is why he isn't in and around the 1st team. MM hates a bad attitude as we all know. I'm led to believe The Bish isn't quite there with his attitude.

Parr deserves better. We've had our best run of games under MM with Parr in the team (before Christmas last year) and the guy is a class above what we have. Yet doesn't get a game. Frustrating for him and the fans. His time has run it's course at the club. Which is a real shame.

Good luck to this new guy. He may or may not get a chance. Lets hope he does and goes on to be a great town player .

This looks like one for the future to me - probably having a look on loan with a view to permanently signing in the summer?

I cannot see him getting near the first team at the moment that's for sure!!!

As far as Parr is concerned he should have played many more games for us than he has. Why that hasn't happened, injuries or falling out with MM, I guess we as fans will never really know.

As I have said before Parr and Bialkowski need to leave to further their careers not note becauseI want them to but because it is obvious they won't get a fair crack of the whip here.

Bishop I think is being carefully prepared and protected to be sold if we don't get promoted this season.

If this happens Digby is a big lad built in the preferred McCarthy mould and if he is half decent will be offered a permanent deal if Bishop departs..

Surely a loan with view to permanent. Another low risk investment from MM which could be fantastic. If it doesn't work out, nothing lost. Imagine wages are cheap. Would rather have him on board than paying Stewart to rot in the reserves or out on loan, so a decent swap I'd say.

Young Digby, sounds like one for the future, maybe. I can't understand the thinking behind letting Parr go. He has never really been given a good run in the first 11. Always seemed confident on the ball and gave a good account of himself when he was given a start. Good result today, onwards and upwards. Boro have already got the top spot and barring a catastrophe will hang on to it until the end of the season , as for the next 5 places they're up for crabs for at least 10 teams. All the talk about Derby having secured the 2nd spot I can't see it myself. an injury to Tom Ince and they'll collapse just like they did last year.

Another player Mick thinks can be worth a punt, what have you got to loose? , he will watch him in training, under 21 games. no way he is gonna get in the first team, but he ain't gonna cost much, if it don't work out, he goes back up t, Barnsley. Lets give him a chance!

Can't see him playing too much to be honest.

Difference with the Cresswell signing was he was playing regularly and regarded as their best player. Mings was pure genius although still playing regularly and performing, so potential could be seen in both.

Hate to write him off, but if we do miss out again this year it will likely because of our transfer activity in January or lack of which is more likely.

When we signed Adam McDonnell he was touted as the 'best young prospect in Ireland' - I am hoping he may get a run out against Pompey but now doubt it - MM has done some magic in getting in Bru - that was good business and Sears has to be the 'buy of the last few years' but sometimes it is a punt and not all will make it - and not just for footballing reasons
Just look at players we signed from 'bigger clubs ' Henshall , Stewart - it is just not about having good technical ability
As for Digby - lets give him time - MM has obvious contacts in that club and someone has seen something in him - at 6' 4 - he is a big old midfielder and maybe MM sees a different role for him - still would like Moncur from Col U - Freddie would know his game - think they played together in youth team
