Norwegian Club Targeting Parr
Saturday, 2nd Jan 2016 20:25

TWTD understands that Norwegian side Strømsgodset have spoken to the Blues regarding a move for full-back Jonny Parr.

Strømsgodset’s interest in the 27-year-old, who was on the bench for Town at Burnley today, first emerged in Norway towards the end of the week and we understand that talks have taken place between the clubs with a view to Parr moving on - perhaps on loan - before the Norwegian season starts in March.

In addition to Strømsgodset, who finished second in the Norwegian top flight during the 2015 season, other clubs in Norway and elsewhere in Europe are also showing interest in the Oslo-born defender or midfielder, who may well favour a move in order to play first team football having started only three times for Town in the Championship this season.

Even if the clubs do conclude a deal, the Blues are highly unlikely to allow the move to take place until they have cover at full-back lined up.

Parr, whose Town contract is up in the summer, joined the Blues following his release by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2014 and has made 29 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

The kind of thing that might've turned Mick against him would be if he ever lost his man at a defensive set piece. We might forget it but Mick wouldn't.

Parr was generally starting in the team that did so well towards the end of 2014 and it was no coincidence he was playing in either right back or left back when we kept most of the clean sheets last season. Roll on this season and MM buys Knudsen for 350K and Parr hasn't had a look in (bar 2 games when Knudsen was injured) even when we were letting in plenty of goals earlier in the season. Probably had a fall out as Mick wanted to play him out of position to often or something behind the scenes we don't know about.

I would trust MM on this one.

Parr is not the player he was in the first half of last season. Niggling injuries have had their toll and it is a tough, hard league where only the strong survive.

We all have our thoughts re Parr and the underlying reasons for his lack of playing time, the fact remains he is in my opinion a whole hearted player who has not let us down in the shirt when he pulled it on!! he's an honest guy who wants to play football so why stay here!? I wish him very well wherever he goes.

Sometimes a player can be to versatile for his own good!
On the surface I don't agree with Parr's exclusive from starting 11, obviously none of us knows what may or may not of gone on behind closed doors!
Wish Parr all the best if he moves on! A real shame for the lad, two years of his career wasted at our club!

Time for Parr to go for both his sake and ours I feel. His deals up in the summer and it would make absolutely no sense for us to renew this considering rightly or wrongly how often he's going to start for us.

Last season I thought Parr was brilliant. Very good player, who was very underused and never got a regular go at RB when perhaps he should.

This season, seen him twice at Notts Forest and Man Utd and he was beyond horrific. Man Utd was a tough game to step into with such a changed side.

Although signed on a free, he will be on quite a decent wage coming from Palace so all things considered, if he would like to go then good luck to the lad.

Thanks Parr for everything you've done if incase you do go.

Wow - the thrust of most the posters ok with Parr going seems to be YES he is a good attacking full back, possibly better than we currently have .... but therefore he has no place in a Mick team !!!! Is this acceptable ? Is this what we have come to ?!!?? Are we supposed to like that ? Not me ...... sorry. Says more about what style of play some find acceptable now in my opinion .....

phillo ............. your post sums the situation up pretty well I believe - unfortunately.

Equally unfortunately - we do have more support for the typical MM style, than would EVER have been acceptable in the 'not too distant past'.

Mark me down as you will (all you I refer too) but we once built a reputation, and ITFC trademark, for playing the beautiful game as it should be played.

Oh - for the memories ..... !!!
