Championship Trio Eyeing Hyam Claim
Saturday, 30th Jan 2016 10:14

Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Bristol City are reported to be keeping tabs on Town midfielder Luke Hyam.

According to HITC Sport, the trio are admirers of Hyam and are monitoring his situation with his contract up in the summer.

However, we understand that the academy product’s current deal, which he signed in 2013, included an option for Town to keep him for a further season.

Even if there is any truth in the trio's interest, Blues boss Mick McCarthy is a huge fan of the 24-year-old, who recently returned to action having been out for almost 11 months with a knee injury, and would almost certainly have little interest in offloading him and said Hyam's long-term future was at Town when he joined Rotherham on loan to gain match fitness before Christmas.

The former Northgate High School pupil looks set to start for the Blues when they face Reading at Portman Road on Tuesday with Jonathan Douglas beginning a three-match ban for his red card at Birmingham.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough have agreed a £9 million fee with Blackburn for ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes, who is now talking personal terms with the Teessiders.

Town look set to receive a small sum as a result with the £8 million deal which saw the 25-year-old move to Ewood Park from Huddersfield in 2012 including a 20 per cent of profit sell-on clause.

The Blues also included a sell-on clause, understood to be 10 per cent of any profit, when Rhodes joined the Terriers in 2009 - for a fee which eventually rose to just over £1 million after top-ups and the sell-on - and if the figures currently quoted are correct should receive a further £20,000 if his switch to Boro goes through.

Elsewhere, a Town U15s side was beaten 6-2 by a Suffolk FA team made up of U16s and U17s at AFC Sudbury last night.

The longer we stay in this championship the longer we will owe that 80 million ?????

If a fee of any size is offered let him go because he will never be more than a very average Championship player. I would be far more worried if it was Bru who was being linked with other clubs

brittaniaman, I think you'll find the longer we stay in the Championship the debt will grow to the owner! A very sad thought.

What's with this blue through and through stuff? He is very average at best and certainly not a good championship midfielder. Listen to any offers for him and get someone in who can actually pass the ball forward

Am keen to keep Luke, he can play in a variety of roles, more than good enough for the Championship and clearly likes a battle & gives his all. A Bullard he is not. Also imagine how screwed we would be if Skuse got a knock sans Hyam? (not a jinx not a jinx)

Absolutely astonished that any club should be interested. As ordinary as ordinary can be. He (A)runs around(in an attempt to win back the ball that he's just given away), and (B)puts his foot in occassionally......nothing else !
