Feeney Loan Signing Confirmed
Thursday, 17th Mar 2016 11:04

Town have confirmed the signing of Bolton winger Liam Feeney on loan until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old, who will wear the number 12 shirt while with the Blues, trained with the squad this morning and once the paperwork is complete will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Rotherham. Feeney's spell would run until after the play-off final if the Blues are involved.

"I’m really excited and I’m glad it’s done now,” the wideman told Ipswich Player HD.

“Coming from the situation [at Bolton] to come into a team that’s pushing for the play-offs is exciting and hopefully I can add to that.

“It’s a different type of pressure to play under but it’s an exciting kind, and the sort you want to be playing under at the right end of the table.

“It all happened pretty quickly and as soon as I heard Bolton had agreed it I came down and watched the boys get a good win on Tuesday night.

“I can bring a directness to the team. I like to run with the ball, put crosses in, so hopefully I can help create a few goals when given the opportunity.

“The gaffer will get a good look at me in my time here so hopefully it goes well and we’ll see what happens next year.”

Speaking on Tuesday, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said Feeney impressed him with his performance during Bolton's 2-2 draw with Town at the Macron Stadium last week.

“I’d never seen him play up front before but I thought he was different class last Tuesday, I thought he played really well,” he said.

“He can play either side, he’s got real pace, he can stretch the team, stretch the pitch and he’s an experienced Championship player, so that’s a good one for us that.”

Feeney, who is out of contract in the summer, started his career in non-league with Hayes and then Salisbury, before moving on to Southend (loan), Bournemouth, Millwall, Bolton (loan) and Blackburn (loan). He joined the Trotters on a permanent basis in May 2014.

Mr Evans. I'd heard a couple of years ago that Spurs have been monitoring young Dozzell on a very regular basis.

With regard to McGoldrick and your suggestion of personal issues, I too have heard very recently that a problem similar to Chopra's is a possibility and more alarmingly young Bishop ( who had a incident along similar lines not do long ago) may be having similar issues still? I say this is only a rumour I've heard very recently so nothing has been substantiated so could just be that, rumours and i suspect We will never know for sure anyway.

AFCB were sad to see him go and would still have him in their squad - he plays well with Pitman.

At 29 and with no sign of losing pace nor skill he is NO JOURNEYMAN.

Same back 5 who will always play...

Pringle Foley Skuse Feeney
Sears Murphy

ANd a great Bench with Options to give fresh legs Like for like or to change a game

Gerken Digby Douglas Hyam Pitman Varney Dozzell

THAT team will win games ...

BOTH Fraser (very unlikely to play again) and AMN are loans who will not feature next year - so we have to look at Pringle and Feeney as POSSBLE OPTIONS (IF they win a contract)

For THIS year it leaves AMN in exactly the same place ..... in the team if he is playing well and not even on the bench if he isn't.....

I think (HOPE) many will be suprised by how good Feeney can be if Mick lets him !

Mr Evans - was your reliable source wearing a yellow and green shirt when you spoke to them? Sounds as though he saw you coming!

Like almost everyone on here am pleased that loan been confirmed, and being 93 days(I believe)will take us past the play off final at the end of May lol !!!

Seriously though as we wont see Teddy again this season I fear, nor probably Ryan Fraser; then he is definitely needed to assist in our push for the playoffs.Could also get him on a Bosman at the end of the season which he seems quite keen on already.

Mick has certainly got through some widemen since he has been here,so lets hope it's umpteenth time lucky!

Welcome Liam, I feel his signing will add some pace and spark in going forward sadly missing since Frasers injury.

This fellah is most certainly not journeyman dross.

Have you ever seen him play or do you like posting negative rubbish which it is so easy to do!!

Cant wait for Saturday---would rather be playing Rotherham than Charlton.

Win win signing for us. He will be running his heart out to try to win a contract next season so I don't really understand why without him even kicking a ball for us yet that there should be any negative comments.
Welcome to Portman Road Liam.

Totally agree with you "Cakeman" some of the negatives on here are beyond belief at times!! and there's me thinking we all want the club to succeed(apart from the closet canaries on here).

Solid signing and every chance that he'll do well. BUT this confirms to me that Fraser will not be returning (MM should never have used him in last game when clearly not fit) at any time.
Need Foley to play too as he's the only central midfielder likley to get forward to help him

A good signing, now if we could get Boring Billy to play some decent football instead of hoof, hoof hoof that would be another step in the right direction. I wont be holding my breath though

Like the sound of this. Proven at this level and an obvious replacement for Ryan Fraser and Pringle if we cannot secure his services.

Kyuski - like the look of your lineup but would have Foley in ahead of Skuse. Am keen to see Sears back up front with Murphy who seems to be running into some form.
