Saturday, 7th May 2016 16:13 by James Ager

Town's youngsters finished third in the four-team U17s tournament held at Playford Road by beating Norwich City 2-1 in the third/fourth place match on Saturday lunchtime. Liverpool beat Brentford on penalties to win the tournament.

Each of the games were played for 45 minutes, and in addition to the normal points being awarded for a win or a draw, each goal that a team scored also counted for a point.

Town's first game on Friday evening resulted in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool. Charlie Brown put the Blues ahead but the Merseyside outfit equalised soon after.

Despite having the best chances in their second group game against Norwich, Town couldn't find the net and drew 0-0. In the other games on Friday night, Brentford and Liverpool drew 2-2 and then Norwich beat Brentford 2-0.

On Saturday morning, Town were defeated 3-0 by Brentford and Liverpool beat Norwich 1-0 which set up an East Anglian derby to determine who finished third and fourth overall.

Despite going behind early on, the Blues battled back and equalised when Flynn Downes scored a penalty after Jack Lankester was bought down in the area.

Luke Woolfenden then headed Tristan Nydam's cross into the net to secure the win, and even though Brown was sent off for a second yellow card Town held on for the win.

In the final Liverpool and Brentford drew 1-1 but the Merseyside outfit took the honours by winning 4-3 on penalties.

U17 squad: Hayes, Wright, Murrell, D Crowe, Webber, Clements, Woolfenden, Cathline, Marshall, Downes, Nydam, McGavin, Meldrum, Cahill, McKendry, Lankester, Wilton, Brown, Daniels.
