Burnley Duo on McCarthy's Wish List
Sunday, 28th Aug 2016 16:57

Burnley pair Lukas Jutkiewicz and Michael Kightly are on Mick McCarthy’s list of potential signings ahead of the transfer window's closure on Wednesday, TWTD understands.

McCarthy is looking to add a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who completed his move to Newcastle earlier today, while the Blues boss is also keen on signing another wideman.

The duo, who each have a year left on their contracts, are currently out of the regular first XI at Turf Moor but their availability will depend on Burnley adding to their squad before the window closes at 11pm on Wednesday.

Kightly, 30, was with Tottenham as a youngster and moved on to hometown club Basildon United and then Southend before making his mark in non-league with Grays Athletic, with whom he won the FA Trophy.

In 2006 Town boss Mick McCarthy took him to Wolves, where he was a key player in their 2008/09 Championship title-winning season.

Kightly

Former England U21 international Kightly moved on to Stoke City in August 2012, then joined Burnley on loan in September 2013 and helped them to second spot in the Championship and into the Premier League.

He made the move permanent the following summer and was a member of the squad which, following their relegation in the previous campaign, topped the Championship last season to return to the top flight.

This season Kightly’s only appearance was in the 1-0 EFL Cup loss to Accrington Stanley last Wednesday.

Southampton-born striker Jutkiewicz, 27, was a youth player with his hometown club before moving on to Swindon where he made his first senior appearances late in the 2005/06 season.

His performances for the Robins caught the eye of Everton, who signed him for £1 million in March 2007.

While at Goodison Park Jutkiewicz made one senior sub appearance and spent time on loan at Plymouth, Huddersfield and Motherwell before joining Coventry City on a permanent basis in July 2010.

After 18 months at the Ricoh Arena - where he scored 18 goals in 61 starts and eight sub appearances - the 6ft 1in tall frontman moved to Middlesbrough, initially on loan before the clubs agreed a £1.3 million fee. During his time on Teesside Jutkiewicz scored 15 goals in 52 starts and 19 sub appearances.

Having spent the end of 2013/14 on loan at Bolton, where he scored seven times in 16 starts and four games from the bench, Jutkiewicz joined Burnley in July 2014 for £1.5 million.

Having failed to find the net during 10 starts and 16 sub appearances in the Clarets’ 2014/15 Premier League season, Jutkiewicz’s 2015/16 was curtailed at the end of August when he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He returned to U21s action at the end of the season and this term has made two brief sub appearances in the Premier League in addition to a start in the EFL Cup game against Accrington.

Normally when we sign someone it's done very quickly and quietly so unless this happens in the next 24 hours I don't expect it to happen! That being said, when Murphy signed he wasn't prolific and we didn't really see him as the man to take us forward and get those goals. If this is the signing were getting then give him time. We've seen TC work wonders with our forwards and long may it continue!

Kightly would be a great signing if he keeps fit, top winger at this level and miles better than Sears on the wing, would provide much needed experience to our now young squad. Not too excited by Jutkiewicz but could be the new murph with a bit of confidence and coaching. To everyone moaning about his goal drought, just remember Freddie hasn't scored in 34 appearances now... Surely deserves a drop

Show some ambition go for Rhodes or Nugent on season long loan with Murphy money or Dack as scoring midfielder , don't personally think either of these are good enough and will be MM giving a contract to one of his mates to see his days out spending more time in treatment room

Sears rarely plays as a striker so not that surprising that the goals have dried up.

Brilliant comments on here, the traffic cone quip priceless! Personally just about where we are..... Derby sign vydra for £8 mil(over payed IMO)and we might sign Leon Best/jutkiewicz, miles apart on ambition! Personally not bothered about either, although if I had a preference would go for other options but hey what do I know?

Oh what a surprise. Players and Mick harshly judged.

Despite their profound wish to ply for the blues, I have notified Messi, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Rooney et al that they can't come play for us as some of supporters consider 30+ is over the hill. Shame as those same people want us to sign "names" which even if Marcus was stupid enough to invest half of his personal wealth ( would we see the same commitment from the nay Sayers) still would not get the bargains they have made on FIFA or CM.

Success comes from a team that works to compensate other team members weaknesses. MM brings a team together, others buy and buy to find an unhappy group resenting others who make the team .

If this is his "wish list" what on earth will we actually end up with!! #noambition

For what it's worth I would take Kightly, far better than anything we have as a left winger. As for jutkiewicz I don't see that as an improvement. Think we got a great deal for a past his best injury prone 33 year old coming to the end of his contract but I would prefer to see more ambitious replacement. However it's not my choice and we need to support whoever is brought in. Hope this report is only half right and we get a far better goalscorer in.

It won't be either of them then..
As we all know whenever we are linked with someone it always turns out we wasn't in for them!
Look at that Martin kid for an example

Oh my god why is it mick has to have a player he signed at Wolves or Sunderland etc ,it's a bad habit and theses guys are not playing cos they are not good enough, look abroad in Spain and Italy plenty of good young players and Argentina .
I have had enough of micks negativity and loanees please buy someone decent for heavens sake

The negativity on TWTD is far greater than that of Mick McCarthy. Messi, Bale or Harry Kane would be considered lacking ambition.

TC works wonders with our forwards !! How many goals have they scored in last 20 games ? Turned Sears from a goal scorer to lost left winger and the reason Murphy wasn't prolific when he first arrived was because a manager played him out of position on the left wing for Sunderland and it took him time to get back into role ....MM ?

Miles.....we have seen the wonders TC has worked with stickers,,who exactly Murps i suppose,,Nouble def not one and a half seasons of constantly playing him and he was just as bad as when he signed,,Marriott been much better since he left sorry told he was not good enough,Varney nope,Sears he has lost what he had when he came here,Pitman i don't know yet he has not been good enough until Murphy has asked to leave now he is excellent different class Pitts so i don't agree with this remark .

Thank god I did not renew my season ticket this year.....Why not try the lower leagues for some young strikers? M.E I feel is just using Ipswich as a tax loss so he can get some money back on his tax.............. I think Ipswich will never get any were now until we have some one who wants to spend real money on the club...... M.E. SELL THE CLUB TO SOMEONE WHO REALLY WANTS THE CLUB TO MOVE ON.... Until you leave M.E. we will always be in the Championship or lower.....

So many experts on here as normal 👏. Basing there opinion one 1 maybe 2 games. If we get them please give them a bl**dy chance.

Bluejake added 19:18 - Aug 28
You'd think we'd already signed these two judging by the crap written on here. Keep your opinions until there's something to actually comment on for goodness sake.

Might be true...might not. Might even be mind games sent out to real targets to encourage a bit of movement. Who knows.

I would go for Chris Martin at Derby, I know he played for that lot up the road but he was born in Suffolk, Derby looking to sell players after spending a lot on new strikers, might cost more than we got for Darren but Martin is a top striker at this level and MM type of player.
