Town Draw Lincoln or Oldham at Home in FA Cup Third Round Monday, 5th Dec 2016 19:14 Town have drawn Lincoln City or Oldham Athletic at home in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. Third round ties will be played between January 6th and 9th.
The Imps, who are currently second in the Vanarama National League, host the Latics, who are second bottom of League One, in their second round tie at Sincil Bank in this evening's live BT Sport game (KO 7.45pm).
Town, who were ball number 20, were first out of the hat at this evening's draw, which was held at the BT Tower.
The Blues and Lincoln have never met in the FA Cup and last played one another in the league in Town's 1960/61 Division Two championship season when Sir Alf Ramsey's side ran out 3-1 winners at home and 4-1 away.
Oldham and the Blues have been paired with one another in the FA Cup in two previous seasons with Town the winners of third round ties on both occasions.
In the 1953/54 campaign Scott Duncan's side drew 3-3 at Portman Road, then won 1-0 at Boundary Park.
Ten years later, in January 1964, Town thrashed the Latics 6-3 at home with Gerry Baker netting a hat-trick, Danny Hegan two and Joe Broadfoot one.
Last season the Blues were beaten at the third round stage by League Two Portsmouth - featuring Adam Webster - after a replay.
Boss Mick McCarthy is yet to win an FA Cup tie as Blues manager. Town's last FA Cup win was the 2-1 victory at Blackpool at the third round stage in January 2010 under Roy Keane’s management.

All this negativity from Ipswich Supporters is disgraceful.Yes,want MM out,if that's your view but surely you should support the team. How can you expect players to give their all when all they hear and see is people moaning, whinging and expecting the team to lose.Hold your heads in shame.

Gemini mustang the negativity has grown at the club because there is so little to be optimistic about, negative tactics, poor performances, little changes from one year to another, boredom and apathy has taken a firm hold of some supporters and it will take a change of seismic proportion to lift spirits. Can you really expect much else with the present regime?

geminimustang I think you'll find the negativity stems from the owner and manager.

Looks like Lincoln City might spring a surprise! Could be worthy of TV considerations!

Prebsa - doing well in the league to try and prevent going out of it in the wrong direction.

Hope we take this seriously. A big name in the next round will Net us a significant cash reward, and just beating Lincoln could earn us (conservatively) 250K. Even an away replay is apparently worth 50K.

Who cares? Won't be there. Cup waste of time with Dino. Last year was my last.

The attendance figures for this will be interesting. No season ticket numbers to artificially boost the attendance. I won't be spending outside of my season ticket. I Wonder how many others will be like me. 8-9,000 maybe? The less crowd the better to get the point across.

Well I've made the mistake of taking the family to watch cup games in the recent past, a day out followed by the match, and every one of them has been embarrassing, Stevenage ones in particular. Having just seen the highlights of the Lincoln Oldsmobile game, both would score at least 3 goals against our hopeless first team! They have a deft touch, work for each other, can pass, know where the goals are, Lincoln have a quick fella up front who works his socks off, has positional awareness, runs in to spaces that happen to be in front of goal.......and even the Oldham centre-half got onto the corner kick and headed the ball AT the goal, and scored.....something our shambolic midfielders or defenders rarely do! Professional footballers.....internationals.....our lot are just so negative, devoid of skill and ideas when they get on that pitch.....grrrr.....so damn frustrating.

Interesting point. Why have our central defenders stopped scoring headers?

BlueMachines: I am afraid you might be being optimistic! Might be even less! Sad times for ITFC
GiveusaWave added 07:02 - Dec 6
BlueMachines We don't win enough corners these days and that's where we would often score from headers. I was told a stat yesterday (have yet to verify) that we have won 4 corners in our last 2 games and our average is about 3.4 corners per game (mainly because we got loads of corners against Forest when we lost 2-0.). We are not exactly free scoring either. I would be surprised if we have scored more than 20 goals this entire season to date. Bialkowski looks like he is going to walk off with the Player of the Year Award without a challenge this year. Last year he was at least challenged, but he'll walk it this year to MM's embarrassment yet again. Wonder what the odds are on a Bialkowski winning the Award 3 years in a row? Low odds I'd imagine.

And northern blues before mick have we ever had a manager put out such weak teams for cup games?? So like I said the point of cup with Mick is...? 1978 isa totally different point as that was when it mattered to our club? So are you going to waste money watch us getting bowled in 3rd again??
