Milne: Stay With Mick
Wednesday, 18th Jan 2017 10:54

Town MD Ian Milne has urged fans to “stay with” manager Mick McCarthy and his team, despite last night’s humiliating FA Cup exit at Lincoln City.

Supporters have reacted angrily to the 1-0 defeat at Sincil Bank, only the Blues' second FA Cup defeat to non-league opposition since they joined the Football League, Peterborough United having won 3-2 in the third round at Portman Road in 1960.

In a statement to BBC Suffolk, Milne said: "Over the two matches Lincoln City were clearly the better organised team. That resulted in them deserving to win and we should, and have, congratulated them.

"We clearly did not perform to the standard we can do and an example of that is the good win we got against Blackburn last Saturday.

"However, nobody in the squad takes any pleasure in producing that type of football in front of our great away fans or indeed to the wider television audience.

"As usual Mick had been honest in his after-match comments and I have nothing to add to that regarding the game.

"I would add that over the last few days we have added players to the squad and we have bids in for others.

"So in these difficult times we would ask our fans to stay with Mick and the boys as we make improvements to the squad and get our injured players match fit, as our aim is to return to winning, entertaining football as we started to do against Blackburn."

just registered after years of using this site.. and supporting Town since I was born in the 70's. Having met many of the players back then .. and even had a certain Paul Mariner come round the house...

Having experienced the highs and lows since that time I have never seen ANY football club treat its fans with such contempt as the statement put out by Mr Milne after the Lincoln game.

To ask us to back a manager who always sets up to play boring dull football .. to support a manager who has been backed by bringing in 2 recent signings who (it's not their fault) are far from inspiring as to being the solution to the clubs woes... But this is just the tip of the iceberg that is sinking ITFC ... it is ever since Marcus Evans took over the club .. for years the academy despite all the talk rarely sees any players come out of it to be used, players have always been played out of position .. before chambers at RB it was Edwards.. before dull McCarthy and his awful play it was the dire football largely relying on has been journeymen on loan under Jewell and the tyranny of Keane... the shocking players brought in under all those managers .. either inability to play... Douglas? or questionable characters .. Paul Taylor/Chopra ..

It just seems at every level the club is being run into the ground and the results this season .. not least capped off by the dreadful televised performance against Lincoln show how low things have got.

I hope people nearer to Ipswich are able to stage a protest.. not just against Mick but against the entire way the club is being run. For me .. that's it for Ipswich. Without drastic change conference football beckons with the current style of play, recruitment, management, marketing, community involvement etc.

I hope the sentiments and content of the posts on this site are forwarded to the current board and to Mr Evans for me as already said .. I won't be back.

McCarthy OUT... Milne .. OUT .. EVANS ... OUT OUT OUT.

BEING TAKEN FOR MUGS, TIME TO ACT!
Usually after a bad defeat I don't feel quite so angry a day or two later, but this one I really do, it's a real p*ss taker this one! And still Mick is in charge to serve up more of the same rubbish! Losing to Lincoln would of been worth the egg on face (just!) if it meant we got a new fresh manager in the building. But it seems we won't even get that! We get national humiliation (or international even!) and nobody takes responsibility!

When Norwich have been badly turned over in the past away they have compensated their travelling fans (the players even did once), how do I know, because my mum and dad get the EDP as we live in Norf**k (so I sometimes get to read what is happening from behind enemy lines). Also, their players have come out and apologised. Where are our players coming out and saying sorry? Not a thing! They are all taking us for mugs Time to act people, we can't take any more of this rubbish! If Milne isn't going to act time to force him to act!

Phil - can you send all these comments to the club? I don't think they fully get the pain us fans are feeling. And I doubt they read any of this. Please, send these messages on to the top of the club.

I can't believe a modern day business is being run like this. Disaster in every sense. And not a word from the main man - the owner. Shocking. The question has to be asked - does he even care ?

LET THE CULL BEGIN...
Living in Norfolk I wouldn't be seen dead wearing an Ipswich top right now! Not that Norwich are pulling up trees but at least they got beaten by a Premier League team last night and not a non-league team.
My lad is 7 and has started to like Ipswich (I nearly lost him to Arsenal) but it's not going to be long before he wakes up and realises it's too painful to follow Town. I wouldn't blame if he did support a bigger team because supporting Town is such a long painful plight!

I let him sit up and watch the game Tue and I was really excited about. He was gutted when they scored at the end. It hurt me as I wanted to share a night with him getting behind our team. He loved the Barnsley match as took him to that. But then we went to Stevenage and Lincoln and I could see he was thinking we are useless! He said to me what has happened to Ward because he thought he was a world beater after his 3 goals against Barnsley (and so did I). How many other bright players is this club going to let Mick kill with his negative tactics!?

This club is treating fans with total disregard and disrespect. Any fan with half a brain could of named a better line up than Mick on Tuesday night.
If we ever get a new manager I hope the first thing he does is release half of these players to the lower leagues, I would start the cull with Douglas and ExSkuse but the cull would go much deeper and wider! And Milne would be culled as he is clearly completely out of step and tune with the fans!

Let the cull begin starting with Mick!

2_Goal, spot on!
Does he (Marcus) even care? If he does he's got the strangest way of showing it!

JUST REFRESHED THE PAGE AND STILL NO APOLOGY FROM ANY OF THE PLAYERS (I HAVEN'T LOOKED ON ITFC OFFICIAL AS NEVER DO, MUCH PREFER TWTD). IN SHORT IT'S A DISGRACE! I'M ASHAMED TO SUPPORT THE TEAM. THEY MAY AS WELL BE GIVING THE TEAM SHIRTS IN PLANET BLUE AWAY TO THE SALVATION ARMY AS NOBODY IS GOING TO WANT TO BE SEEN DEAD WEARING THEM RIGHT NOW! HOW MANY DOUGLAS SHIRTS OR KNUDSEN SHIRTS DO YOU RECKON THEY'VE FLOGGED THIS WEEK? I'LL GIVE YOU THE ANSWER, PROBABLY ABOUT AS MANY AS WE'RE LIKELY TO SCORE ON SATURDAY!

Matthew Crush...... I will not have a go at your post as you are entitled to your opinion and I personally feel we have to stick together or we become as undivided as the team we follow.
However...... We are in a very dark place, the football is dire and has no direction, there is little or no fight in the team and we actually looked SCARED against a non league side. We cannot afford to 'bottle it' especially not at home or indeed away. I remember the Duncan days, McGiven days and more recently Jewell, but having followed ITFC for over 40 years can't remember when we were this bad. In the past the heads didn't go down and we battled, ok it may not have been pleasant to watch but at least you could say "they tried" now you can't say anything other than "what a gutless performance". McCarthy has clearly lost the dressing room as well as the players and until he goes, things will never improve.

Midastouch - I was thinking the same thing. Norwich have compensated fans before so why can't we? They have also publicly apologised for specific poor performances so why can't we? The only apology I have seen is from Bialkowski, who didn't even play. Silence from those who humiliated us in front of 9 million people. So many people mocking our team now and how poor we are and stone silence from the players. We can blame Mick for picking the team and the tactics but not for that unbelievably horrific performance. It's etched into the memory of so many neutrals. When they think of Ipswich Town FC they'll just think of jokers who can't pass, shoot and give up easily. I'm a fighter and don't give up easily, and want no association with gutless people who do. The thing that hurt me most about that abject display was the gutlessness of it. On BBC 1. In front of millions. when that goal went in who was running as fast as he could back? Lawrence? Show some guts now and speak to the fans. It's not as though you're going to read all our comments anyway!

if any Ipswich fan is thinking of going to either of the next 2 games away I would ask you not to go ! as I believe you are not helping the situation at the club , 99.9% of people on this site want McCarthy and evans gone the only way this will happen is if the fans vote with their feet and boycott the next 4 games ,we can moan and groan all we like but its in our hands because if the club continue to get people through the turnstiles they will carry on doing what they want regardless.. money is the only motivation this board in charge has take that away and see how quickly things will happen if this debacle had happened at 90% of clubs the fans would having demonstrations.... why not here ??

A text I received today

"Ha Ha Ha. It was like when I take over a team on FM Touch, stick 4 goalkeepers in the middle, stick a defender up front, press contain and see what happens! Sorry you support them mate, really sorry for you. The worst thing about it is that you all seem to be using the unsackable cheat! Display like that by one of the bigger championship teams (Huddersfield, brentford), they wouldn't take it. They will be talking about that for years. But on the bright side mate everyone in the pub was laughing and cheering Lincoln on. Never seen anything like it"

Not replied yet.

And to add insult to injury, the Prime Minister complimented Lincoln City for their win in the House of Commons yesterday, incidentally I also found our football to be disgusting and embarrassing on Tuesday, in fact I've found it to be so generally speaking for quite some time, severe changes required I'm afraid.

ITFC2001 You mention EADT & TWTD for being compliant to ITFC.Agree with you re this site but not EADT who are currently scathing, and just today ran a headline that 75% of supporters now want McCarthy out.
SURPRISED PHIL DIDN'T CONSIDER THIS NEWS WORTHY?Beginning to

think that Carlisle Away Mickszzztactics and Lord Mamu have a point!

Also agree with what rickoshay midastouch,2 goal and luckdiddy that Evans has no interest in the club.Dont think he ever did, apart from a pecuniary one.As CHA irman has never bothered to attend AGM ever

What can be done:=
Important local figures could get involved as could the Independent Supporters Association(The original Supporters Organisation is effectively now a fund raising and social arm of ITFC with Chairwoman Liz Edwards on the Board)
The EADT as said before are doing their best with editor a life long supporter.Perhaps the gutter press could also get involved as they have a colourful figure in Evans!!!"Its the Sun that did it"
Many on here are boycotting until the Dino goes;a regular supporter I couldn't, but mk bobby has suggested demonstrations as have others either outside,on the pitch,or from the terraces. In my 50 years have witnessed these as chanting

Sorry about sending three times, didn't think it had gone at all. Was in the middle of saying also chanting which have heard a bit off together with booing.

Finally as some have said about Evans getting out.We all know he cannot be forced out;but may be able to be persuaded to release his stranglehold of the club by selling some of his 87.5 % stake, remember 'Own a bit of It'?This would raise a bit more money, which is the only thing he understands.Mr Sheepshanks, with his Suffolk roots, persuaded some wealthy people to invest, before he made(in hindsight) the wrong decision to allow this glorified 'ticket tout'to take over our once great club.

No one would invest if Evans still had a controlling interest however. Not sure ,as suggested, that a wealthy sheik based in Newmarket would be a good idea, perhaps the Chinese owners of Felixstowe Docks would be preferable,or better still that young fellow from Fram who play the guitar and sings, goes by the name of Ed Sheeran I believe lol
