Taylor: Robson Told Me All About Proper Club Town
Monday, 30th Jan 2017 18:58

New signing Steven Taylor says legendary Blues boss Sir Bobby Robson told him all about "proper" football club Town during their time together at Newcastle United.

Centre-half Taylor, 31, signed a contract to the end of the season at Portman Road this morning but won’t be available until international clearance comes through having been with MLS side the Portland Timbers until December. The Blues hope he should be eligible for Saturday’s home game with Reading.

"The gaffer has been really positive with me and I'm delighted to get this opportunity now," Taylor told Ipswich Player HD.

"I've been training with the club for a while and the lads have made me feel right at home from minute one.

“They've made me feel really welcome within the group and it's been an enjoyable week or so in the building.

"I know all about the history of the club and Sir Bobby Robson and Charlie Woods, who I played under at Newcastle, would always talk about how great a club Ipswich is, so I'm delighted to be here now.

"It's a 'proper' football club, if that's the right way of putting it. There's a great history behind the club, it's a very professional set-up and there's a good 'feel factor' when you walk through the door, so I just can't wait to get started now."

Good luck in your Ipswich career. I hope you succeed because we need a leader in the center of defense.

FYI: we used to be a 'proper' football club, until ME and MM began their appetite for destruction.

Yesssssssssssss, best signing in ages.

I think this is our last signing of this January!!!

I see trouble on the horizon, this is gonna be a terribly hard second half of the season.

That's 2 players in until end of season..is this because they have to prove themselves to get a contract or is it until the new manager arrives??

Let's go in and gazzump QPR.

We need a good quality striker or two.

Quote "It's a 'proper' football club," Yes I agree It was a 'proper' football club, but not now hopefully once the current regime throws in the towel perhaps it will be again.

Welcome Steven and if u remain fit I can see us being hard to.svore against again. You at the back..."Dave" in Midfield
that's the start of a decent spine through the team. May have to wait until the summer to.land thd striker though....

Good luck Steven and perhaps you could recommend a few half decent
fringe Newcastle players to us they can't be worse than what we have already.

"A good 'feel factor'.." - so everyone likes feeling everyone else up?

Miltonsnephew - Agree. Smith is a good signing. But think wage would be a concern. QPR can pay significantly more than us.

Welcome to the Club Steven.

I also wish him all the very best. Hope he stays fit.

But under MARCUS EVANS. We are no longer a proper football club. We are a club that tries to pull the wool over the fans eyes and charge an obscene premium price for an extremely low quality product,

Steven - one thing you need to do is note the difference between 'was' and 'is'.

You have been a few seasons late in your arrival.

Good player but we ceased to be a 'proper club' when the faceless Evans Corporation took over and you will certainly not play the 'Ipswich way' with Boring Billy in charge. Now how high can you hoof it

We were "a proper football club" once, Steven, hence the name of this site. At the moment we are a "corporate enterprise," but we all live in hope that we'll return to our roots some day. In the meantime, Welcome, and COYB!

sir Bobby would be turning in his grave if he looked at the football and the general state of the club

H1960 no don't think he would having spent many an evening with the man he would be offering his thoughts and perhaps advice that's how much passion he had for the game and in particular ITFC.
