Forest and Robins Linked With Spence
Monday, 1st May 2017 16:51

Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen on Town right-back Jordan Spence, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Spence, 26, joined the Blues in January having been a free agent after his release by the MK Dons last summer and having spent time on trial at Playford Road and with a number of other Championship clubs earlier in the season.

Since signing a short-term contract to the end of the season Spence has established himself in the Town starting line-up and has now made 16 starts.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has said he has been impressed with the former West Ham trainee’s performances and will talk to him and his agent at the end of the season.

Spence has similarly said he has enjoyed his time at Town and would like to stay, most recently at Saturday’s Player Awards Evening.

However, according to HITC Sport, Town face competition for the former England U21 international full-back’s signature from Sunday’s final day opponents Forest and the Robins, where Spence previously spent two spells on loan during 2010/11 and 2011/12.

Exactly the type and age of player that fits to take us where we want to go. Sign him. Emmanuel can be understudy and sent out on loan to get games with recall if Spence gets injured. Don't want MM responsible for the type of players who are in the squad for next season thank you.

Sign him up!

A decent player, good age, and we gave him a chance as a free agent to develop into a first team regular so I see no reason why he wouldn't want to stay on. Forest and Bristol are no better than us so make him a good offer and get the deal done.

second that @dissboyitfc

The money thing is wearing thin. Get Dean Smith in, dont hear him bigging up every other team based on finance...he works on a tight budget and the footy is quality.

Dont worry, the club have said they are in discussions with all players re: expiring contracts.
Im sure we will know very soon when deals are done. No harm to see articles like this too keep the pressure on Milne and Evans :)

Should've been offered new terms months ago. Why do we give ourselves hard work to do by waiting until the summer? We've known for several weeks that we're safe. It should've all been sorted straight after the Burton game to sign Huws, Chambers, Spence etc.

Good player who suits right back well. Hopefully he doesn't go but if he did? 1. Would Evans put the money in to get another decent player?.
2. If he did, would Mick buy the player and play him regularly?
These answers have to be YES!! SUPERBLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First solid right back we have had in a fair few years, just hope the club don't end up messing this deal up....

For those giving credit to MM on finding Spence, we had him on trial quite a few months before we signed him. He played really well, particularly against Liverpool...but MM let him go. Fans were crying out for us to sign him and he didn't....it wasn't until much later that Spence ended up at the club.

He's a decent player and young enough to improve. I thought he showed he can operate in centre too at Villa so who knows what his best position is!
It would be stupid to leave it until end of June to offer terms and why would he want to go to Forest if they go down or Bristol for that matter?
