Town Among Clubs Linked With Wigan Striker Bogle
Friday, 28th Jul 2017 13:43

Town are reported to be one of a number of Championship clubs eyeing transfer-listed Wigan Athletic striker Omar Bogle.

According to Sky Sports, new Latics boss Paul Cook feels the 24-year-old doesn’t fit into his style and has made him available, apparently for £800,000. The Blues, QPR and Barnsley are all said to have expressed an interest.

In January, a few days before his £750,000 deadline day move to Wigan, TWTD reported that Town sent a scout to watch Bogle in action for his former club Grimsby at Stevenage.

Following his move from the Mariners, the Sandwell-born 6ft 3in tall frontman, who has two years left on his Latics contract, grabbed three goals in 12 starts and two sub appearances as Wigan dropped into League One.

The one-time Solihull Moors striker had previously netted 19 times this season for the League Two Mariners, having scored 16 goals as the Lincolnshire club won promotion from the Vanarama National League through the play-offs during the previous season.

A fourth striker remains top of manager Mick McCarthy's wish-list, however, speaking yesterday the Blues boss indicated that he expected that addition to be a loan signing.

Would be a fantastic signing. Permanent deal for a player who is the right age and could be part of our squad for several years. It's definitely the way to go.

Love to see the lad here on a 3 yr contract with extension offered.Attitude will not be a problem and I feel we have good team spirit which will rub off. This could be the move both parties are looking for.

He could be the man to replace Murphy at last!!
Only thing is will we pay anymore money out on transfer fees.
He's the type of player we need, good age too.

I'd get Bogle & at the same time get Max Power who has also been told he can leave the club & is currently training with the academy. We had a 1 mil bid refused in January for Power, I would offer 1.5 mil for the both of them!

Evans should be reinvesting the money he's promised in the right players and invest a little of the Mings money back into this guy or get someone better. It's unacceptable to use money gained from selling key players to keep the club solvent, or to argue that the money is being reinvested in loans, especially if that strategy isn't working and we're operating every year at a deficit. What's the solution? Work with what we have, or sell more key players? That is so unambitious and unsustainable, if we're not winning most of our matches. We're mid-table Championship operating every year at a loss. He need's to budget more for signings. He's the owner. He needs to reinvest his own money or get some fast, without charging fans more to pay for your mistakes. Pony up if that's what it takes to be competitive.

Can't see Bogle working for us. Clash of personalities with Mick just a matter of time. After that, on the bench and out of the door with "contract terminated" and more money down the drain.

With respect to all there are a lot of posts on here re his attitude & he wouldn't get on with MM. Not sure if he has clashed with previous managers? Mick has clashed with some but equally has got on with a lot more.

I think this one could be worth a punt. Still a young lad (he was 25 two days ago) and he can score. I don't really know too much about the lad so don't want to criticise. @Midas I liked that article on Wells about us :) shame he didn't want to stay but I can understand home sickness and especially when he was only 14/15 years old. Would be great to see him come aboard though

Please just sign this guy!
He's exactly the sort of player we need to sign if we're serious about making a challenge for promotion - pace, power, the right age and most importantly he knows how to score!
Get him in and let TC work his magic!

Brownie: I am one of those you refer to who posted about Bogle's attitude. Of course, I don't really know anything about Bogle as a person, except for a "lazy streak" reported in the chat forums, so point taken. But these reports do nonetheless sow a slight seed of doubt as to whether he is the right kind of character for Mick, who as we know has a very black and white attitude to effort and commitment. Anyway, we probably won't sign Bogle, but if we do, I hope I'm wrong and I'll give him my support.

No from me. There's a lot better in league 1 and 2

at 850k certainly worth a punt, okay didn't have time to establish himself in a poor Wigan team since he joined in January but for that money is it that much of a gamble? he's only 24 and a player who gives it his all.

Ogle out Bogle in.

In todays game of grossly over inflated prices / values - this has to be worth a punt at this figure.

That's probably why there's little chance of him coming here - others will move sharply, whilst we do nothing.

Absolute pile of tosh. The sort of player the mccarthy haters will like coz there is no loan fee and cheap aka "within our price range" and he would be an ipswich player . If that is the best we can get then relegate us now and start next season.

Would prefer Hugill on loan as he at least can play at our level. Boyle at £880k is a gamble and could be just another Moore. Rudy would be first choice though as I think Prem is too high for him
