Moore Set for £750,000 Barnsley Switch
Friday, 5th Jan 2018 09:41

Kieffer Moore reportedly underwent a medical at Barnsley last night and is close to completing a £750,000 move to the Tykes.

According the Daily Mail, the clubs have agreed the fee and the 25-year-old was at Oakwell yesterday with the move close to being finalised.

News that Championship Barnsley had moved for Moore first emerged last night when Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony hinted on Twitter that the Tykes were the club who the 6ft 5in tall striker was set to join.

Posh had previously agreed a fee for Moore before opting against the move with the wage being offered at Barnsley close to £10,000 a week, according to MacAnthony.

Rotherham, for whom Moore scored 13 goals in a highly successful loan spell during the first half of the season, also made a bid, as did Bradford, while a number of other League One clubs, including Charlton, Scunthorpe and Wigan, were also understood to be interested.

Torquay-born Moore cost the Blues £20,000 when he was signed from Forest Green Rovers a year ago. He made 11 sub appearances for Town without scoring.

I'd love to see him given a couple of games but the rules are he can't play for a third club if he plays for us. Pity.

He's a division 1 player at best, no doubt that's where he'll be next season! It's good business but it's insignificant in terms of 'football money'.....what a load of hot air for nowt! Barnsley Fc you're as daft as brushes!

As much as I would have liked to have seen him get a chance first, there is no way we'd have offered him 10k a week wages on a new deal. I guess we were fairly forced into it by yet again questionable contract management.

Good business, not good enough at this level. Believe just had a purple patch at the start of the season and won't do it consistently.
£750,000 plus add-ons is good business all round, still believe Bart and McGoldrick will depart before the window closes.

Haven't seen much of the guy, only the highlights of some of his Rotherham goals this season, most of which he took very well. He is 6' 5" which is his USP and will automatically attract a lot of clubs, plan B etc. He does have a decent goal scoring record as well to be fair. Sure he will be in or around Championship/League 1 for years to come.
Great business on our behalf though.

A total no brainer, a successful loan spell does not make a successful career. I just hope the money is reinvested into the team. And I wish him well.

Shame he didn't make it with us. And it as hardly a good bit of business selling him for £750,000. Take away his wages for the year, less what Rotherham contributed and what is the actual profit? £2 or 300,000? Take from that the scouting costs, original signing procedure & player registration, overheads including coaching staff costs and well, I think his signing has been a bit of a of a failure for Ipswich. He should have gone to one of the other interested parties that were looking at him at Forest Green, instead of being naffed around at PR.

There's a very good news archive facility on this site. May I suggest that you go and have a look at 26 June 2017 when it was announced that Moore would be joining Rotherham on loan.

Most were happy so see him go, a lot suggested that we just give him away, a couple even wanted to drive him there themselves.

Now 6 months later, after a few goals and someone interested in him for £750K, you want him back. Unbelievably short memories some people.

Mick is a genius at wheeling and dealing attacking players. I'm sure he and Connor will generate much more needed funds. Let's hope we buy someone in that perfect age range, where we get goals and a good price when we want to upgrade.

Yes a good bit of business, everyone praising the dinasaur but people seem to have short memories. McCarthy has signed more dross than good players, Douglas, Nouble Etc Etc. Some very good players never were given a chance because of the appalling tactics at ITFC, too good to play hoofball.
Praying MM goes in the summer

Ipswich Town is best left to the obvious few (take note of the empty stands) that think all is great - just hope they keep clapping loud enough to be heard in such small numbers.

..... warktheline - don't be so sure we won't be there in Div 1 against him.

A few more results like the last three - and we will be for sure.

Whatever is being quoted, Barnsley will not be paying anything like 10k p/w.

@blueboy, it had crossed my mind! Didn't want to upset the 'happy chappie' gang any further than I already had! I had no idea McCarthy was and is such a shrewd operator in the world of 'transfers' until reading today's wave of aurora!

If you listen very carefully you'll hear the sound of what I believe is a tongue slapping against lips - yes that's what it is!... and I believe it comes from one Mr Marcus Evans.
