Moore Set for £750,000 Barnsley Switch
Friday, 5th Jan 2018 09:41

Kieffer Moore reportedly underwent a medical at Barnsley last night and is close to completing a £750,000 move to the Tykes.

According the Daily Mail, the clubs have agreed the fee and the 25-year-old was at Oakwell yesterday with the move close to being finalised.

News that Championship Barnsley had moved for Moore first emerged last night when Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony hinted on Twitter that the Tykes were the club who the 6ft 5in tall striker was set to join.

Posh had previously agreed a fee for Moore before opting against the move with the wage being offered at Barnsley close to £10,000 a week, according to MacAnthony.

Rotherham, for whom Moore scored 13 goals in a highly successful loan spell during the first half of the season, also made a bid, as did Bradford, while a number of other League One clubs, including Charlton, Scunthorpe and Wigan, were also understood to be interested.

Torquay-born Moore cost the Blues £20,000 when he was signed from Forest Green Rovers a year ago. He made 11 sub appearances for Town without scoring.

Has to be great business.

I agree with lightning blue on the others as well----if MM really wants to stay have a clear out now and re-do the team.

Colback coming back would be a start.

I fail to see where the praise for the dinosaur is coming from, regarding Mings it was osman that found him and informed the club.. it is just the scouts doing the job regarding Moore and the dinosaur had a look and didn't like him. It will be interesting to see if this is either a good or bad bit of business. At least he is in the Championship so we will all find out.

Always a risk that we regret selling but on balance - very good business
Lets hope some of it is reinvested
Do Forest Green have any sell on clause?

Yes let's pull the squad apart and start again, like we do every season. MM has had 5 years to build a team. Time for MM to stop protecting the owner, evens is clearly calling the shots and when he wants to sell MM does as he is told. Evans is a fraud

Thank you razor for understanding. In all fairness the club has said for a while now that they want a high percentage of players from the academy. Now unfortunately we are unable to have everything. Either.
1. Spend money that we most certainly do not have abundance of (90 million in-debt) on players who generally don't want to be here.
Or the alternative being.
2. Invest in the young players at the club. They are cheaper and want to make a name for themselves. A new wave of dyers, scowcroft and Wright etc. This is a cheaper option and always gets the supporters on side eventually. Unfortunately this is not a quick fix and take time

Well done Mick???? Praise the manager who's ruining our club? It will have nothing to do with him? It just another player he didn't ruin!! Best of luck to the lad. So where's the players we going to sign if Mucks that good?

I'm a bit out of touch so I have questions. Why are we excited by 750,000? What happened to Mings, Wickham and Creswell again? What can you buy for that anyway? Hopefully a few more K. Moore's, I guess. Couldn't he make the squad stronger? He'd certainly give us more options. Maybe he was unhappy with his Intern wages? If we bought a striker with his stats for 750,000 that those other teams were fighting for, would we be excited right now? Just questions so don't be moody.

On the basis of the three club rule per season, I think sadly we've had to take the ££££ and run on this one.

Still would have rather us given Moore a chance, however if he played a single minute for us he wouldn't be able to play for another club all season so perhaps sensible all around.

Good luck to the future!

Happy with this. Still hope that Bart and Didz stay and some money can be used for loan midfielders.

Did someone say we're in freefall? We're in free-stagnation. It's frustrating but it's progress from where we were. The real question is whether we have the right leadership to progress and whether it's about money or management. I'm still in the position of sticking by Mick until a better option is available. However I'm really not sure we have the financial clout for other options.

Should keep him if he's worth that much!

Whether we like it or not,it's an exceptionally good bit of business.

if he is good enough for Barnsley why sell him? Move on the deadwood like McCgoldrick

He looked out of his depth last season, so it's a reasonable price for someone done well in L1. Hopefully we'll have a sell on clause too just in case it turns out he can do it in the Championship too!

It is only a good piece of business if he scores less that Sears in the Championship. Who would like to put a bet on that?

Good business in anyone's eyes , unproven striker at this level for three quarters of a million , big gamble by Barnsley .
He would not get in above any of our strikers who are all scoring regularly and have new Irish boy who MM obviously rates higher

The reality is that it is an excellent move for Moore.
10K a week and he'll get regular football!
Which will be a lot better future than if he stagnated here under MM as Manager

The positive comments are laughable.
We should be looking to sign talent from the lower leagues.
We couldn't have hoped for The lad to do any better, but rather than have a look at him, we're just going to flog him.
This contradicts what both Milne and McCarthy have previously stayed.
And let's not go blaming Evans - this will be Mick's decision.

Pleased with that. Turning £20 into £750k within a year is always great business. Still would have liked to see him get some games back here but £750k for a player unproven at this level is too good to turn down. His spell at Rotherham could prove to be the purple patch of his career...or maybe not. Time will tell, but I'm not sure he was quite good enough to be prolific at this level.

Great move for Moore. He'll be earning more than many here. All the best.

And those who are saying he is unproven at this level, so was David Johnson.

No let's all blame Evans, he doesn't get enough stick for the running of this club! Can someone please explain to me why Evans bought this club and what he wanted to get out of it??????

MM football is boring and I don't like him as a person but he has done ok with Evans poor backing

Westy added 11:55 - Jan 5
I am miffed about this. Barnsley obviously think he is Championship standard. if this is the case, then why are we selling. I remember how big a thing the Club made of it when we signed him - can't help feeling we will regret this.
