Town to Sign Forest Winger Carayol
Wednesday, 31st Jan 2018 13:48

TWTD understands the Blues are set to sign Mustapha Carayol from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer before this evening's 11pm deadline.

The 29-year-old winger is out of contract at the end of the season and will be joining the Blues in much the same way as Stephen Gleeson earlier in the month with Town taking on the remaining months of his deal after his departure from the City Ground.

Gambia international Carayol was a youth player with Swindon and Macclesfield before breaking into senior football with the MK Dons.

He spent time on loan with Crawley before joining Torquay on a permanent basis prior to a loan stint with Kettering.

Lincoln was his next port of call before he moved on to Bristol Rovers where he really made his name, securing a move to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2012.

He scored his first league goal on his Championship debut for the Teessiders in their 2-0 victory over the Blues at the Riverside in August 2012.

Having had spells out on loan at Brighton, Huddersfield and Leeds, the 5ft 11in tall pacy wideman joined Forest after leaving Boro - then managed by current Tricky Trees boss Aitor Karanka - by mutual consent in August 2016, signing a two-year deal.

Since moving to the City Ground, Carayol has made only 17 starts and 21 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

However, he has remained in their first team squad and started Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Hull before being replaced at half-time.

Can I please ask a question....... can people tell me if they actually think MM will be leaving the club at the end of the season and why?

I really don't know anymore what I think about the situation and just wanted to see what people's thoughts are. A manager would normally be signed up for a further few years by now but I can't help thinking that MM will decide whether he wants to stay or not, maybe keeping is options open because I think that Evans and co would jump at the chance to sign him up long term?

smithy0981 - Mick gave a very strong indication in a recent interview that he will be leaving this summer.

He's staying, that's why he's still signing players. If he was leaving a new man would be taking over now.

Skip73.. he can't go back to Forest they don't want him !! Hopefully he will do better than Henshall , Stewart ,Ando , Toure, Rowe ,Hunt , Sears , Tabb and any other great wingers Mick has signed

Probably a good move just like Feeney so long as mick stops using Sears for wide role.
Maybe now Mick will set up team as proper 442 but not holding my breath!
Neither McD nor Sears provide the service that Garner needs but who knows.

Decent winger and commanded a high wage at middlesboro, before falling out with karanka at Boro and then now again at forest.
Will be very good for us IMO.

Is he a right-sided player? If so, maybe Waghorn plays centrally more often.

Heard good things about him, and remember seeing tweets on TWTD from forest fans who couldn't believe he wasn't playing regularly earlier this season.

Chill everyone.
Just been brought in to bolster the squad ensuring we don't get sucked into the relegation dog fight.
No big signings because we're getting a new manager next year that will want his own players, staff etc.
Calm down, it's all gonna be alright 😊

An 18th year of mid table mediocrity beckons.
Just with a new manager.
Blue Army!

A below average Championship club, attracting poor crowds, with a manager who lacks any vigour, and an owner who has no interest or know how ! WHEN McCarthy has finished ( on his terms ) milking his highly paid contract ( can't come soon enough ) thereafter, unless clueless Evans and his muppet, miraculously 'pick lucky' our club will sink into Div 1....and so on!

Keep 'clapping' forever and ever!

Welcome to Portman Road. There are those who do support the town who write comments on this site.

Absolute shambles. Around £1m in and £75k out. Just sell Evans.
