McCarthy: A Good Chance I'll Still Be at Town Next Season
Friday, 9th Feb 2018 15:28

Town boss Mick McCarthy says there’s a “good chance” he’ll still be at Portman Road next season but is yet to make a decision on his future.

McCarthy, who turned 59 on Tuesday, is out of contract at the end of the season, although with the club having an option to keep him for two further campaigns.

The Blues boss says he is planning for next season, looking at players and setting up the pre-season programme, but says that doesn’t necessarily mean he will still be at the club, although says there’s a strong possibility he will.

“Not with some certainty but I can say there’s a chance I’ll be here, yes,” he said. “There’s a good chance I’ll be here, if [owner] Marcus [Evans] wants [me to be] if we can come to terms with it.

“I enjoy doing what I’m doing. I’ve no great desire to leave, but I’ve always said, it could be my decision, it could be the club’s decision. Until we get together, I’m sure we’ll be able to meet and then we’ll see.”

Asked whether that should suggest he’s already made his decision, he responded: “No, not at all.”

He says his future is still up in the air as things stand: “Yes. But my job’s not. I could go, ‘I’m not sure what I’m doing, I’ll won’t look at players and I won’t bother with looking at loans and transfers’.

“I could do, but that’s never going to happen and whether I was [going to be here next year] or not, even if I’d made my mind up I’d still keep doing that job and planning for next season because I’m the manager, I’ve got to do it. But that’s not the case, it’s still open.”

Last season McCarthy pondered whether fans have got bored of him, his spell at Portman Road having started in November 2012 almost six years ago now. Is he not bored of those fans? Might a change benefit all concerned?

“What do you think?” he retorted. “That I’m entitled to make my decision? And I will! You say you’re happy for me to make my decision, and I will.

“Have I made a decision yet? No I haven’t. I’ve said that and the more I talk about it that’s not going to make me say anything else. I haven’t. I’ve had a chat to Marcus and that’s just ongoing.”

AndyUK61873 not everyone wants change I do and I can't tell you who but somethings got to give home games are so tedious I spend more time drinking than watching the game it's god awful and everyone knows it. The real question is are we happy watching very poor football which is going nowhere or do we want to see if there's something better out there? For is it's time for a change and I think I'm in the majority. As for who should take McCarthy's place ask someone who knows about football I really only know about my club, and it's current state is not acceptable!!'

Football wise: it would be good to have a change at the club (in my opinion)
Business wise: can see ME sticking with McCarthy. Not for another five years...but for the time being. He got stung with Keane and Jewell and McCarthy is a sensible choice from a business perspective.

That's not correct !! I have stated on a number of occasions my hope that we bring in Gary Monk. Played for and managed an excellent team at Swansea and should never have been sacked. Went to a basket case club at Leeds, even Pep would struggle there and Boro pulled the trigger when they were 7th wth. He's young ambitious articulate has fresh ideas doesn't play hoofball and hopefully won't disrespect the club and the fans. Everything the dinosaur is not !!!

He would be my choice I'm sureo others on here may have different opinion but then that's what it's all about !!!

Oh and one thing that's fact not opinion. Swn you're head is so up you're ar$e you're blinded by you're own stupidity.

Of course Dino is going to stay, he has the Cushiest job in Football !!! He Talks the Talk with Evans, who just listens in Awe (purely because Evans know nothing about football) so he will not release him, He seems to be happy to Paddle along mid table in this Championship league, for how long nobody knows,,
Then Dino will still Dictate to him his terms for a new contract

If mick stays real supporters will still support the team if he goes we certainly need Crowley bros or any up & coming inexperienced championship managers that's my option complete without bile & offensive content!

Stop whingeing!! We're lucky we've got a manager of his calibre. Who else would stick around with the resources he has to work with? Unless there's new investment coming along then who else would want to come in and do as well as Mick?

So, if say Town regularly gets gates of 9000, we regularly on here get the " I want him out" brigade numbering at best maybe 50. So lets make a suggestion to these people, stay away and you will have nothing to moan about. I think you will find that the majority of Town fans want MM to stay as he has done remarkably well considering the financial restrains that he has been working under. Yes, he can be abrasive but that's how he is and this is not going to change so get used to it. I have now put on my crash helmet and sitting behind the sofa awaiting the abuse that will surely head my way. Ready, steady, GO

thundercat600 if that were the case surely SBR would sing McCarthy's name every game loud and proud? I personally don't know anyone that supports McCarthy I am only speaking about 50-60 people.

See You En Tea

After 30 odd years of following the club this year has seen me almost lose all interest in the game as a whole.

This man has done that. This man has slowly but surely killed off my interest in the beautiful game over the last few years; with his lies and his insults, his favourites and his abysmal tactics.

I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed myself at a game of football and if this man is still the manager of ITFC next year then I suspect that I will never go to a game of football ever again.
