Jones: Downes Reminds Me of Mason Wednesday, 14th Feb 2018 15:00 Luton Town boss Nathan Jones says on-loan Blues midfielder Flynn Downes reminds him of Hull City's Ryan Mason, who was forced to retire earlier this week due to a serious head injury sustained during a game in January last year. Jones was the assistant manager of Yeovil in 2009 when Mason, 26, made his first senior start while on loan from Tottenham. "Flynn reminds me a little bit of him - the way he is, the way he goes about his work," Jones told BBC Three Counties Radio. "I'm really sad and it's fitting because he was one of the best players and Ryan would've liked playing in this team." He added: "That kid was wonderful, he's one of the best players I've ever worked with." ![]() Downes has made a strong start to his loan spell in his opening three games with the Hatters, who top League Two by six points following last night’s 4-1 victory over Crawley in which the 19-year-old midfielder impressed a watching TWTD Forum poster. Regarding Downes, Jones continued: ”He'll turn into some player and we hope we can be part of that education.”
