Bialkowski Could Make Poland Debut
Friday, 23rd Mar 2018 11:17

Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski could make his full international debut this evening when Poland take on Nigeria in a friendly in Wroclaw.

Bialkowski is in the senior Polish squad for the first time having won six U20s caps earlier in his career and manager Adam Nawalka may field him at some stage tonight with a number of fringe players expected to feature as several regulars will not be involved.

If he doesn’t play tonight, Bialkowski has another chance to make his international bow when Poland face South Korea in a friendly in Chorzów on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old is one of four keepers in the squad along with Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus), Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea) and Lukasz Skorupski (Roma).

While two of Nawalka’s World Cup keepers look nailed-on certainties - Szczesny and Fabianski - the third space in the squad travelling to Russia is more open with Skorupski currently not playing games. Poland will be in World Cup Group H along with Senegal, Colombia and Japan.

Meanwhile, Jonas Knudsen was an unused sub as Denmark beat Panama 1-0 in a friendly at the Brøndby Stadion last night.

The 25-year-old left-back has another opportunity to win his third full international cap - and his first since joining the Blues - when the Danes play Chile in another friendly in Aalborg on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, academy youngster Kian Ronan is set to win his first Gibraltar U21s cap when they host Serbia in a European Championships qualifier today.

The 17-year-old Harlow-based right-back or midfielder, a first-year scholar who qualifies for Gibraltar as his mother and grandparents were born there, has previously won caps at U17 and U19 levels.

The Gibraltarian youngsters have another home European Championships qualifier against Russia on Tuesday.

On another note, has anyone noticed on Twitter several Leeds fans
have bombarded the site to urge the club to sign up Mick McCarthy in the summer.
Apparently they are already unhappy with Heckingbottom, after just 1 win in 8 and many see McCarthy as the man to revive their fortunes.
Watch this space !!

Bart is the Best! His late father will be watching down and smiling on his international debut I hope. Well deserved and shows that his persistence and perseverance have finally taken Bart into a position to fulfil his boyhood dream. Persistence is so often the key to life.

If there is one person who deserves to play for his country it's the Bartman. What a guy and what a keeper. The best since Cooper and how many times has he saved us I wouldn't like to count. 🇵🇱 Number one!
