Town XI Win at Brightlingsea
Saturday, 14th Jul 2018 17:07 by James Ager

A young Town XI featuring five trialists in the starting line-up came from behind to win 3-1 in a friendly at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday afternoon with Jack Lankester netting twice and Armando Dobra (pictured) once.

Blues keeper Mitchell Ware was called into action early on but did well to block Billy Hunt's close range effort. However, from the resultant corner George Keys was given space to take a touch and volley the ball into the net.

Ware parried away a volley from Harvey Hodd soon after, while at the other end trialist Trey Williams flashed an effort wide and then blazed over moments later.

The Town stopper was kept busy throughout the half and did well to prevent the hosts increasing their lead as he denied Hodd and then Billy Hunt from point blank range.

Despite coming under sustained periods of first half pressure, the Blues equalised two minutes before the break. Williams broke into the box on the right and teed up Jack Lankester. The striker's first effort was blocked but he fired his second attempt into the corner of the net.

On 63 Town took the lead when sub Dobra fed a ball through to Lankester, who took a touch before finding the bottom far corner of the net.

Seven minutes later a fine ball from Lankester found Tommy Smith and the young left-back cut the ball back to Dobra, who converted from near the penalty spot.

After a challenging first half in the heat and with a number of trialists taking some time to settle into the game, the Blues went on to dominate the second half and the home side rarely threatened after the break. Lankester took his goals well and looked sharp while Dobra also impressed against a tiring home defence.

Among the trialists were former Leicester midfielder Morgan Brown, 18, and Bryan Agongo, also a midfielder, who was with Croydon last year and has previously interested Huddersfield.

Striker Trey Williams, 22, was also among the starters with QPR, the New York Cosmos, Enfield, Welling, Fisher Athletic and Hampton and Richmond among his previous clubs.

Midfielder Keano Deacon, also 22, was previously with Fleetwood and Stalybridge Celtic.

Town XI: Ware (Egan 46), D Crowe, Vega, Brown (El Mizouni 58), Marshall, Clements (Smith 46), Williams (Foudil 46), Akongo (Scott 58), Deacon (K Brown 46), Green (Dobra 46), Lankester. Att: 123.
