Chalobah and Morris Could Win Caps in England U19s Play-Off
Thursday, 26th Jul 2018 08:54

Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah and striker Ben Morris could win England U19s caps later this morning when the Young Lions take on Norway in their final game at the European Championships in Seinajoki, Finland, a play-off for a place at next summer’s U20 World Cup in Poland.

Central defender or midfielder Chalobah, who joined Town on a season-long loan from Chelsea at the start of the month, is again expected to skipper the side having done so throughout the group stages in which England finished third and exited the competition they won in Georgia last summer.

Chalobah was also a member of that squad and has now won 23 U19s caps, scoring one goal.

Morris made his U19s debut as a late sub in the second group game against Ukraine, having previously played for the England U17s and U18s, and again appears likely to be on the bench today.

The duo will be back at Town in time to be considered for inclusion in the squad for Saturday's final friendly against West Ham at Portman Road.

Andre Dozzell was also a key man in the side which won the Euros last summer but has remained behind this year as he continues his return from injury.

Fellow midfielders Tristan Nydam and Flynn Downes also won U19s caps last season but Town were unwilling to release the duo for the competition, preferring that they remain in Suffolk for pre-season.

Nydam and Downes were far from the only players head coach Paul Simpson was unable to call upon with a number of clubs refusing to release youngsters who would otherwise have been in the squad.
