Town Again Linked With Accrington Striker
Sunday, 29th Jul 2018 10:40

Town are again being linked with a move for Accrington Stanley striker Kayden Jackson.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Blues boss Paul Hurst is set to offer £1.25 million for the 24-year-old, who was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues earlier in the month, an offer it is claimed the League One club would find difficult to rebuff.

Stanley were previously reported to have turned down bids from Rotherham and Peterborough, while Preston have also been linked.

Jackson, who scored 16 goals in 48 starts and one sub appearance last season, previously played for Hurst, albeit briefly, at Grimsby during a loan spell in the first half of the 2016/17 season before the Town boss moved on to Shrewsbury in the October.

Bradford-born Jackson started his professional career with Swindon following success in a 2013 Win a Pro Contract competition run by Samsung when a player with Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

While with the Robins, he had spells on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Oxford City, prior to stints with Tamworth, Wrexham and Barnsley before his loan with Grimsby and his permanent switch to his current club last summer.

Stanley chairman Andy Holt has confirmed that the Tykes would receive a percentage of the fee they would receive should Jackson move on.

Jackson, who is 5ft 11in tall, is contracted until the summer of 2019 and can play in wide roles in addition to operating down the centre.

Speaking yesterday, Hurst admitted that the Blues would have to move quickly to recruit a replacement for Martyn Waghorn if, as seems likely, last season’s 16-goal top scorer departs before the window closes on August 9th.

Derby currently lead the likes of Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest in the chase for the 28-year-old.

“I think we’d have to because what we can’t do is leave ourselves short and at the minute we feel we need players in anyway. If there was to be another departure, then clearly that adds to the need to get players in," he said.

The Blues boss also hinted that he may be looking at bringing in more frontmen in any case: “He hasn’t gone anywhere yet, so it may be that we’re trying to sign people anyway.”

Meanwhile, Blues target Conor Townsend completed his move from Scunthorpe to West Brom yesterday for a fee reported to be £750,000. Town and Hull City had previously had offers turned down by the Iron.

It's not about right and wrong fella, it's about getting behind the new manager and the players he wants in rather than ridiculing decisions and judging expected performances before we've even kicked a ball in a competitive game.

Value doesn't equal talent, ask Derby.

I'd happily watch us finish mid table if we showed signs of progression and an ‘improved' style of play, and even more so if it was done with the young guns from the academy like we witnessed yesterday.

Things aren't going to change over night, we're not suddenly going to challenge at the top now MM has packed his bags, like a fear some hope and expect, PH needs to be given time and that time extends past ONE transfer window and 2 months in the job.

Bring on Blackburn.

Who said we're wack? You said we're wack?
You take it back! Who said we're wack?
You talkin smack? You're gonna get smacked!
(You sayin that I'm wack but it just ain't so)

Someone said we're wack, why would they say that?
I don't think we're wack, who said we're wack?
Who said we're wack? I can't believe that
They must be smokin crack, to say that we're wack
Say that we're wack, you probably get smacked
if you say we're wack, did you say we're wack?
WHO SAID WE'RE WACK? I'll paint your eye black!
Won'tcha check my facts - who said we're wack?

How could a person up and call a person wack?
How could the devil turn the blue sky black?
How many babies born will never reach their dreams?
And how could a person call another person wack?

I heard a rumor that somebody said we're wack
I think that's wack, to call someone wack
I AM NOT WACK, NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY
WHAT DID YOU SAY? DID YOU SAY I'M WACK?~!

All the ladies in the house put your hands up
All the fellas in the house put your hands up
Now whoever said we're wack put your hand up
Now everyone else, put your hands down
(Oh there he is, there he is!)

Apart from the season under Burley where we spent millions on foreign mercenaries which ultimately led us to bankruptcy and being the starting point of 18 years in the wilderness, haven't Ipswich always sought bargains from lower divisions and sold them on for a higher sum? Or am I missing something?
PH has a vast experience in lower league players.
He is putting together HIS team of young hungry players with something to prove.
Is Waghorn irreplaceable?
Admittedly a good player but the way some on here go on he is the new Beckham!
PH is doing exactly what we wanted. Out with the old in with the new.
Looking forward to my first game since the home derby with Norwich on Saturday.
The football will take time to come together but can't wait to feel the sense of optimism from the crowd and the atmosphere of the past.

I think selling Waggy would be a major mistake. He scores goals and is still in his prime. Surely we must learn from history. We need a decent in depth squad not one where we depend on also rans. Having a variety of front players who have differing styles is a major headache for defenders when subs come on. Our squad is still relatively lacking quality in depth. If we are to ever get out of this division we need some big B***ARDS with quality.
Please keep Waggy!!!!

Playing young players with pace, hunger, passion and work ethic, playing for the shirt and for each other, pressing high and getting the ball forward quickly can get you a long way. For instance, with the right man in charge it can get you to a World Cup semi-final. RIP Dad's Army football. Long live football. It makes you wonder when some of the old guard managers last went on a coaching course. The new way is certainly not how we were taught by the older managers of yesteryear.

My reading of the remarks by Paul Hurst, and Marcus Evans's impressive interview a few weeks back is this: they can't realistically prevent Waghorn leaving if an impressive fee and an impressive contract are combined. Simply no choice, however disappointing for us all. The Keane/Jewell big-buying experience and the MM lean times for ticket sales has, unfortunately, meant a huge reduction in available money. It's unrealistic to expect anything other than a tight ship. Paul Hurst and up-and-coming player-purchases are a strategy that ME set out for us to hear. I think it is the best current option and we all need to have modest short-term aims and high long-term hopes. It'll take time and I'm hugely encouraged by the high 'like' scores on this site for people who take broadly this view; most realistic and sensible fans are behind this new chapter. Fingers crossed. Oh - and I thought 15,000+ for a friendly was a brilliant welcome to the 2018-19 season.

Would rather keep Waghorn than chance these league 1/2 players unless they are replacements for McGoldrick and or Garner

Greenarmy, I AM right behind PH and I haven't ridiculed anything, all I have said in a round about way is I want us to sign a better quality player, surely every single one of us town fans want that. Other than that the rest is good valid points.

Kayden Jackson permanently vs Steven Gleeson on loan
Gwion Edwards permanently vs Some old journeyman on loan
An old crisp packet blowing around in the wind or Jonathon Douglas on s two year deal?

All no brainers for me. Would much rather have young hungry players signed permanently than loads of loans, has beens and players with no club getting a game.

Good luck PH i say, i hope it all works out well.

Love Big Tone. X

16 goals in 48 (1 in 3) last season in league 1 I'd expect to translate at championship level to be around 1 in 5 or 6, so about 8-10 per season.
For 1.25 Mill, if rumours are to be believed, are we really fine with that?
I'm hoping the step up will bring the best out of him but concerned for the gamble.
In PH we trust.

Bamford is expected to join Leeds from Middlesbrough today in a £7m deal... Will that trigger the sale of Waghorn to Middlesbrough? We always seem to be at the end of the chain which leaves us little time to manoeuvre. That's the most frustrating part of it all for me.

I think I would prefer Tom Bradshaw to this chap personally, but Harrison looks great so I am prepared to go with whoever PH feels will suit his plans.

Would feel a lot better about things if we were to sign Tilt asap though, don't want us to lose out to Rangers on that one.

Jewellinthetown: I'd love you to explain how 1 in 3 goals in Championship equates to 1 in 5 for a league one player. Strikers that get goals in my opinion get them in higher divisions as well. There are plenty of good recent examples ( Vardy, Grey for Brentford to name just a couple. These players are ( as has been pointed out) young and hungry and on the up whereas I'm prepared to bet that Waggon will never have a season as good as last year. I'd love him to stay but he is a GOOD championship journeyman - a solid experienced player who will not have any Premier League clubs sniffing around. If Harrison gets 16 + goals for us I'll wager that there will be Premier League clubs after him and who's to say that the lad from Accrington Stanley won't be just as good. I agree though that we do need to wrap up Tilt who does look a fine prospect. I'd also like to remind people that moan about us not splashing the cash that QPR have just been fined £48 million for splashing more cash than they should have and are not going to be allowed any transfers in the January transfer window. I'm all for ME and PH beingsensible with their purchas3s
