Town Eyeing Carter-Vickers Return
Sunday, 19th Aug 2018 11:37

TWTD understands Town are keen to bring Tottenham centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers back to Portman Road on loan.

Carter-Vickers, 20, enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with the Blues during the second half of last season, making 17 starts.

The four-times-capped US international is currently out with a groin injury but it’s not expected to sideline him for long.

EFL clubs have until the end of the month to sign players on loan with a central defender and a striker on Blues boss Paul Hurst’s wish list.

Town are also reported to have recently renewed their interest in Blackpool centre-back Curtis Tilt - in whom Wigan are also said to have shown interest - but speaking yesterday Hurst said there had been no new developments on that front.

“Nothing’s changed in terms of him being a player that I like,” he said. “But as far as I’m aware nothing’s changed on that situation.”

The Blues also made a move to sign AFC Wimbledon skipper Deji Oshilaja late on the final day of the transfer window but were unable to agree a fee for the 25-year-old.

Hurst subsequently said it’s unlikely that Oshilaja would join on loan: “I’m not sure whether a loan deal would be happening there.”

As good as CCV is i want us to continue to build our own team we already have 2 loan players who will get a lot of game time so i agree with those who would prefer a loan with an agreement to a permanent deal .

Yes, fully understand the preference to bring in perm signings to build from. But, they have to be of the right quality, and available at a price we can afford. The two lads from Blackpool and Wimbledon respectively are clearly players PH believes can enhance the squad; however also seems clear that respective clubs' owners are intent on playing hard-ball to the point of us walking away. That said, I still have a feeling that we will get Tilt - eventually!

In that scenario, and given we're extremely short of defensive depth, bringing CVC (experience and quality) in is not a bad alternative. The realities of today's game apply.

Whoever said Conner Wickham and CCV, I admire your optimism. That would be quality. Would welcome Wickham back all day long. Pure class. CCV would clearly have a good education with spurs aswell.

We need a strong left footed CB to give us balance(if not 2 we have enough right footers in the building) in the middle if we don't get one then I feel Knudsen needs to go in there with Kenlock at left back at least until January I can remember when the tactically inept manager who was here kept playing Tommy Smith on the right when Chambo was at right back ignoring the candidates for the right back position, being unbalanced in central defence just does not work!!!!!

CCV if signed would expect to be playing, new signings unlikely to be dropped as only just signed by PH. Woolfie good as a back up when over his injury so where does this leave Luke chambers? Looks like Chambo along with skuse and Knudsen probably won't be here next season?

@Popeye: Luke Chambers could be slotted in at right back to facilitate Carter-Vickers & Nsiala in the centre!!

Those who want Connor Wickham, how about that other great white hope Dean Bowditch!
Come on Wickham has been injured never proven at premiership level one of the best bits of business we did selling him. Hold on there is always Darren Bent!

Hope you're right popeye, we need to rid our great club of the dinosaur element, except Bart of course, oh and Freddie.

Chambers does alright but he's always got a mistake in him. He's a hoofer as well & doesn't look comfortable on the ball. CCV definitely a step up.

Len_Brennan..... what a ridiculous thing to say! Chambers is no RB and although is a 100 percent for effort man he cost us goals in the past playing there! Dont think were are cable of scoring more than 2 a game so our defence needs round pegs in round holes!

Would be a really good loan signing but how much would he cost? We also need Chambers to organise the defence so we can't afford to play without him until we find another leader.

100% - this would be a great move. I have my fingers crossed it'll happen and he'll be in the team for the 2nd Sept.

Yes please. And never understood what is so wrong with a loan. If we get a seasonlong loan it's the same as someone playing out the final year of their contract. And besides, we would probably never pay as much as we need to get CCV to sign permanently from Tottenham.
