Town Among Clubs Linked With Derby Striker Jerome
Tuesday, 28th Aug 2018 20:41

Town are reportedly among a number of Championship clubs eyeing a move for Derby County’s former Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome.

According to the Daily Mirror, Town, Blackburn Rovers, Hull City, QPR and Reading are all keen on the 32-year-old with the Rams open to offers for the frontman, who is said to be a high earner at Pride Park.

Jerome, who joined Derby from Norwich for a reported £1.5 million in January, is yet to feature for the Rams under new manager Frank Lampard having scored six goals in 10 starts and 10 sub appearances last season following his switch.

Turkish reports previously linked Goztepe with a move for Jerome, who counts Middlesbrough, Cardiff, Birmingham, Stoke and Crystal Palace (loan) among his previous clubs. He has another year left on his contract.

Another striker is very much on manager Paul Hurst’s wish-list before Friday’s 5pm loan deadline but Jerome might prove a controversial signing given his Canaries past, while wages could be an issue if he is, as reported, one of Derby’s higher earners.

Another striker is very much on Pauls wish list - that goes without saying and is an absolute must [ get a striker proven at this level ] but not Jerome.

No thanks he's passed it now, we desperately need an experienced striker of either Championship or Premiership quality but at 32.

He just doesn't strike me as the player he was a few seasons ago.

Not sure why Derby don't keep him. Would be half decent and a pest at the end of a Knudsen throw in

At least he wouldn't be coming to us straight from Norwich, but via Derby, which makes it a bit more palatable. That said, it worked with John Deehan, right?! ;-)

We so should have got in Rhodes before the scum did. I think we were managerless at the time though, That would have been a perfect fit.

And didn't we just have two proven Championship goal scorers! Sold them, and replaced them with cheap buys from lower leagues or dodgy loans! Why the heck didn't we just keep them!

If we can get Jerome he's decent, good pro always liked his attitude, remember when norwich beat us in play offs him and hoolahan spoke after game and he wasn't gloating etc seemed good fella, can we tempt hoolahan as well let's face it theres no loyalty in the modern game anyway, Alan Lee went to norwich now he's back with us, Chris Martin on the other hand nah he falls into the Bellamy camp type for me.

Jerome usually looks like he can do a job in the Championship but he really seems to struggle for goals in the Premier League, he's one of those players that seems to find the top flight a bridge too far. His best season was arguably when Norwich won the Play Offs, at least of what I saw of him then (which wasn't that much to be honest!) He doesn't seem to be at that same level now, although to be fair he did score a few goals at the tail end of last season when Rowett signed him. I was a bit surprised when Derby went in for him (they seemed to have plenty of attacking options already before they signed him from Norwich) and now with Lampard there he does seem surplus to requirements. I don't see him coming here, see my earlier post above, but as I said previously, stranger things have happened, but would definitely be surprised if he picked us over some of the other available options he'll most likely have.

One decent game in four, but if it meant playing another up front maybe worth a punt. Play him up front alone, and like most strikers, he would achieve nothing.

Smacks of another interest / move of desperation, havent we seen enough of those previously ? - whilst our youngsters just don't get a chance.

Paul Hurst needs experienced help - right now - otherwise he may just fall on his sword, and end up back where he came from, sooner rather than later.

If he was still any good, why did Derby splash out on Marriot and Waghorn?

This is the bloke who dived to win a penalty & get Fabian Wilness sent off in a televised game. No way do I want him
