Town Among Clubs Linked With Derby Striker Jerome
Tuesday, 28th Aug 2018 20:41

Town are reportedly among a number of Championship clubs eyeing a move for Derby County’s former Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome.

According to the Daily Mirror, Town, Blackburn Rovers, Hull City, QPR and Reading are all keen on the 32-year-old with the Rams open to offers for the frontman, who is said to be a high earner at Pride Park.

Jerome, who joined Derby from Norwich for a reported £1.5 million in January, is yet to feature for the Rams under new manager Frank Lampard having scored six goals in 10 starts and 10 sub appearances last season following his switch.

Turkish reports previously linked Goztepe with a move for Jerome, who counts Middlesbrough, Cardiff, Birmingham, Stoke and Crystal Palace (loan) among his previous clubs. He has another year left on his contract.

Another striker is very much on manager Paul Hurst’s wish-list before Friday’s 5pm loan deadline but Jerome might prove a controversial signing given his Canaries past, while wages could be an issue if he is, as reported, one of Derby’s higher earners.

You lot saying yes please to Jerome are also deluded.

There are 20 clubs in premiership and another 22 in championship to choose from. Not some chubby ex scum player who is getting past it and on huge wages and denying our own players a place in starting 11 or bench.

Would rather sign Connor Wickham.

Why would you not take him can hold the ball very well and knows where the back of her is. So what if he used to play for Norwich, we need a target man and 32 for a target man not that old.

No thanks,we need goals and Jerome has never been particularly prolific.
Surely there's an experienced fringe premiership player, better than him out there
somewhere.

Get him in, rather have him than play against him to be honest... if he scored on Sunday it would be awesome :)

Town sign ex Norwich striker. Doesn't do well. Many expletives, told you sos, should never have happened etc. Town sign ex Norwich striker, scores winning goal against them. Best and most courageous decision ever. ZZZZZ (contd. P 94)

Yes but he won't come as others will pay the loan fee and we won't especially on his wages

We won't sign him . No way will we be paying silly ages for an ageing journeyman.
And don't even get me started on the scum connection !

I think if we did go for him we wouldn't be paying 100% of his wages. Can't help but think there are better options out there though. Rudy Gestede springs to mind.

Will he be motivated to perform or just be here to sit around and relax on what will be a more than decent wage?

I wish PH would give our youngsters a chance. The only way to see if they are up to it is to play them. Ben Morris please.

Players always score against their old clubs ( or is that just ex town players? )
Could we borrow him for the weekend?

No thanks!!! Like he's actually going to be bothered about being here anyway. I'd rather play Morris.

Really don't get this immature Neanderthal attitude that a player who has played for Norwich shouldn't play for us.

Granted there may still be better options out there but really why would we want to turn down an opportunity of adding an experienced target man at this level who can score goals to our squad. Only 3 days to go!!

I don't really see this happening, although far stranger things have happened in football before. I just think because he has other options he'll most probably look to go elsewhere as think he had a good relationship with the Norwich fans (although not quite sure what terms he left on as I'm not an expert on Norwich by any means!) and he surely must know it would really p*ss them off if he came here and if he has any loyalty to that memory he would surely pick one of the other available options over us. Blackburn have started well for example, he might be tempted by them. They seem to be on the up and up again. Although still very early into the season so can't really be too sure who will still be in the mix come next year. Remember when Alan Hansen said you can't win anything with kids. They'd lost their first couple of games I think and Utd ended up winning the league that season. When Fergie played all the kids early that season (he'd let the likes of Hughes go and suddenly they had a load of young players who looked out of their depth first 2 games) and it got off to an awful start some in Manchester were calling for his head! Yet he stuck with the kids and we all know what happened next. Maybe a lesson Ipswich could learn there too, just saying!!!

Connor Wickham & Robert Huth (free) ( if not Collins as the defender - released by W.Ham and free- only for the season though))

Well whichever way you slice the cake we need a striker pronto, even if it is this guy.

Hopefully we will then play two up front to get all the crosses from all the wingers we now have!!

And lets pray common sense prevails and we win the appeal for the big man, desperately need him on Sunday.

Should not have sold Waghorn & certainly not for the peanuts we got...let's face it,he's what this team is crying out for.

When will we ever learn?..never it seems.
