Walters Out for Six Months
Wednesday, 26th Sep 2018 16:58

Striker Jon Walters will be out for six months having suffered a partial rupture of his achilles during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers. The 35-year-old was forced off shortly after coming on as a sub against his former club.

"One-time skipper Walters rejoined the Blues late in August on loan from Burnley until January and now won’t play again before that spell is due to end.

Walters, who has made just two starts and the weekend sub appearance without scoring, will return to Turf Moor to undergo his rehabilitation.

The Republic of Ireland international, who had missed the match against Brentford having initially suffered an achilles problem in the previous game at Hull, underwent a scan at the weekend, then saw a specialist in London today where he was given the bad news regarding the extent of the injury.

“I’m obviously gutted with the news,” Walters told the club website. “That’s football though. That’s life I suppose as well and while I’m really disappointed, there are a lot of people worse off than me.""

“I’ll work hard and get back to fitness as soon as I can. I’ve enjoyed being back here and I want to wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”

Speaking after Saturday's game, manager Paul Hurst admitted it was an incorrect call to include Walters.

“Clearly it was the wrong decision to involve him and I’m the one to make that decision," he said.

"But I think Jon would certainly be the first one to say that he trained yesterday [Friday] and said he felt fine.

“We said we’d look at it again in the morning to see if anything developed overnight and he said he felt fine.

“He’s an experienced pro, I’m sure desperate to be involved, but if he didn’t feel he was right he wouldn’t have put himself up for selection."

Walters's injury means Hurt will no longer have to make a decision on which of his six loanees to leave out of his matchday squad with only five permitted.

Bluemike1969 the news site isn't about football its about opinionated idiots like blubore and pals Dirty etc who need bringing down a peg or too that's all just a bit of fun.
The forum is the place to be for robust debate.
Phew glad weve got that settled.

Let's put things in perspective here. It's very unfair to blame Hurst for this injury. These things sometimes just happen, and while it's a great pity for the team and for JW himself, it's just unfortunate. You can't predict everything. Hurst asked JW before the match if he was ok and he said he "felt fine," which was no doubt true. So why wouldn't Hurst bring him on at a time when we sorely needed a change? I agree things haven't gone to plan, and I do think we should have integrated more yoofs into the squad, but this wholesale turnabout on our new manager is not productive. Let's get together and try to support the team out of the current unfortunate position we find ourselves in.

Blow for Walters but I am not sure he was going to be any Messiah. looked like a panic signing
Our boys need to step up ASAP

Also at least Janio gets to be on the bench - thought it was really unfair for him to miss out due to all max loanee rule

Swn98 ......... the sooner you realise that 'insult is a sure indication of weakness of the insulter' - the better - because you WILL NOT keep getting away with calling people - numbskulls and idiots. Take that as read.

It is only your opinion, and a few of your pals - but I suggest you learn a better way of putting your so called 'debates' across.

WITHOUT THE INSULTING NAME CALLING. In so doing you may be able to put a two liner, factual post together, again we can but hope.

Blueboy when MM called the fans Numbskulls i didn't take offence as i did not consider it to be addressed to me the same as when i reiterate his point it is at no one in particular but if the cap fits wear it!!!
With regards to rubbing ones nose in it not the type of comment i would expect from a true supporter such as your self proclaimed self.
If you don't like what i write don't name me in your posts then i will have no need to refer to you in mine.

Swn98 ....... only you, McCarthy, and a few of your other cohorts, would use such words to align any supporter of the Club with.
Let's hope your messiah gets a job soon, perhaps with any luck you'll follow him, and give this forum a miss.

Logical debate is a no goer with people like you - beyond your understanding. End of.
