Hurst More Determined After Town Sacking as Claim Lambert to Be Handed £10m War Chest
Sunday, 28th Oct 2018 10:11

Ex-Town boss Paul Hurst says his sacking by the Blues makes him more determined to be a success elsewhere in the future, while it’s reported that new manager Paul Lambert was lured to Portman Road by a £10 million war chest.

Hurst’s 149-day Town reign was brought to a close at 3.30pm on Thursday via a 10-minute phone call from owner Marcus Evans. Assistant manager Chris Doig, fitness coach Nathan Winder and physio Chris Skitt also left the club.

“This only makes me more determined to be a success in the future,” Hurst told The Sun on Sunday. “Looking back now there are things I would probably change but I have no regrets.

“And now it’s time for me to sit by the phone again and hope that I get a different kind of call.

“When I get it I will be ready and I aim to make sure the experience with Ipswich will only make me better at my job.”

The 44-year-old added: “I don’t feel like I am damaged goods now. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to go forwards and I have complete belief that I will become a top manager.”

We understand Town will pay Hurst a low six-figure sum to settle his contract, which was due to run until 2021.

Meanwhile, the The Sun on Sunday claims new boss Lambert, who was appointed yesterday on a deal also until 2021, was tempted to take the job at Portman Road by a £10 million January war chest.

While a sum of that size would be a huge surprise given Town’s approach in recent seasons, and owner Evans's much-vaunted Five-Point Plan, Lambert will certainly have some cash to spend during the transfer window as the bottom-of-the-table Blues look to avoid relegation to the third tier for the first time in 62 years.

Lambert, 49, is meeting the players and coaching staff at Playford Road for the first time today having watched yesterday’s dismal 3-0 defeat at Millwall along with his new coaching team, from left to right, first-team coach Matt Gill, assistant manager Stuart Taylor, Lambert and fitness coach Jim Henry. He will be unveiled to the media on Tuesday.

'rock the boat' - the phrase I was looking for :) - probably the one the size of Philip Green's 'Lionheart' knowing Evans wealth!

If we go down, as I think we will, I hope PL sticks sround, 'cos I think he's as good a bet as any to get us back up again. But prepare for Doncaster et al., folks!

@TimmyH

LOL Exactly!

And speaking of phrases... the main one Ebeneezer Evans could be looking for, (AT LEAST until January's alleged opening of a £ 10 million war chest), might be:

"A goalscorer, a goalscorer, my engraved golf-clubs for a goalscorer!!!"

(With apologies to William Shakespeare, Laurence Olivier's academy award winning performance as Richard III etc. etc.) :-D :-D

Finally, as a supporter of a rival club, I would like to send my deepest heartfelt sympathies to the owner of Leicester City along withers the victims involved in the tradic accident on Saturday evening. With this I would like to say this on behalf of everyone at Ipswich Town football Club. My prayers are with all involved

I do not feel sorry for PH. Never did he fill me with any confidence at all. Reminds me the time I think it was Harry Redknapp who was offered the cousin of George Weah only to find he had 2 left feet. I knew nothing of PH and he by the sound of it had 1 good season at Shewsbury. YES SHREWSBURY. In interviews he came across as a timid child never inspired me with confidence and cannot believe he inspired the team. Out of all of his signings i would keep 3. Edwards as he looks as though he can do a job. Kayden Jackson and Nsiala. Both look hopeless but KJ has pace and Nsiala is a big strong lad. Jackson needs a proper forward beside him to learn off and if can learn could pop up with 10 goals a season. Nsiala is truly shocking but i would give him 6 months training and if he can learn not to dive in and learn how to play at this level then he could be an asset. Not seen enough of Harrison to judge but feel sears is past it so he may have a future. The rest can go.

Sorry, I'm not in the “good luck, Paul” camp. I wanted him to succeed like most on here but I feel he has left us in a far worse situation then he inherited. All of us with no football management experience could see he's fransfer policy was doomed to fail; far too many additions to the squad of dubious quality, and yet he persisted!! Nice bloke, by all accounts, but no thanks from me!

"Looking back now there are things I would probably change but I have no regrets. I aim to make sure the experience with Ipswich will only make me better at my job" Well, all the best with that then, don't worry about us heading for L1 and looking a far worse outfit than when you arrived. You've left us right in the smelly stuff.

£10m?

Great if true but Lambert's probably gonna need more than that to sort out the mess Hurst has left us in.

@WoodfordTim

Funny (not!) , erroneous on multiple fronts Muck McCarthy said the exact same thing after his departure :

"NOOOO REGRETS WHATSOEVER!"

Hmmm must be another Yorkshire mental thingie, this crummy 'Self-delusion of Infallibility'....

But eh since pesky " Infallibility" can sadly also be an issue on a still needlessly fan-divided & sometimes even very overboard in it's nasty antagonism between it's members sport-chat-board like this, respectfully it might be useful for *SOME* to broaden your psychological horizon on said mindset, as can be done fairly easily here for instance:

Sorry it did not work out for PH - he should be able to shrug this off and find success elsewhere, albeit at a lower level again first.

What amazes me is this making the £10million war chest public....when do clubs learn that if we have money available, prices will be inflated again!!!

Tbh I thought that the Hurst appointment was the right one back in the summer, but the squad that he's left us with is the worst I've seen in 39 years of watching the Town.
I wonder whether the reputed £10m will materialise if any chance of survival has gone by January. In the meantime, perhaps Lambert should pull the shirt on.

Presumably the £10m is wholly dependent on Lambert (or whoever is manager by the time January ticks round) achieving £11m in player sales first.

Has Marcus Evans got a personal helicopter by any chance?
