Hurst More Determined After Town Sacking as Claim Lambert to Be Handed £10m War Chest
Sunday, 28th Oct 2018 10:11

Ex-Town boss Paul Hurst says his sacking by the Blues makes him more determined to be a success elsewhere in the future, while it’s reported that new manager Paul Lambert was lured to Portman Road by a £10 million war chest.

Hurst’s 149-day Town reign was brought to a close at 3.30pm on Thursday via a 10-minute phone call from owner Marcus Evans. Assistant manager Chris Doig, fitness coach Nathan Winder and physio Chris Skitt also left the club.

“This only makes me more determined to be a success in the future,” Hurst told The Sun on Sunday. “Looking back now there are things I would probably change but I have no regrets.

“And now it’s time for me to sit by the phone again and hope that I get a different kind of call.

“When I get it I will be ready and I aim to make sure the experience with Ipswich will only make me better at my job.”

The 44-year-old added: “I don’t feel like I am damaged goods now. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to go forwards and I have complete belief that I will become a top manager.”

We understand Town will pay Hurst a low six-figure sum to settle his contract, which was due to run until 2021.

Meanwhile, the The Sun on Sunday claims new boss Lambert, who was appointed yesterday on a deal also until 2021, was tempted to take the job at Portman Road by a £10 million January war chest.

While a sum of that size would be a huge surprise given Town’s approach in recent seasons, and owner Evans's much-vaunted Five-Point Plan, Lambert will certainly have some cash to spend during the transfer window as the bottom-of-the-table Blues look to avoid relegation to the third tier for the first time in 62 years.

Lambert, 49, is meeting the players and coaching staff at Playford Road for the first time today having watched yesterday’s dismal 3-0 defeat at Millwall along with his new coaching team, from left to right, first-team coach Matt Gill, assistant manager Stuart Taylor, Lambert and fitness coach Jim Henry. He will be unveiled to the media on Tuesday.

Let's be honest, even from NZ I can see what the problem is. Marcus Evans. End of.

Whoever said shame Evans didn't give Hurst £10 million in the summer - what a joke that would have been. He has no idea of the level of ability needed to do well in the Championship. Look at Jackson yesterday. Terrible ball control, hardly won a ball, never gets a shot in, no threat in the air. Just pathetic.

I wish Hurst the very best for the future. But, he was sadly massively out of his depth and it shows with the mess he has left behind. Drop back to division one is the way to go for Hurst.

In regards to Evans, I doubt he will give Lambert as much as one million, let alone ten. I suspect the budget will be dependent upon how far adrift we are in January. It will also influence potential signings thoughts on whether to join us.

This is a sorry situation.

Can we not look for free agents now? I know it's not ideal but surely a 'punt' on benty could possibly work. Either way, make sure you get the loaners back asap and get all of them working as of now. Stamp your authority on them Paul and anyone that doesn't want to be part of it can go. No nice guys or 'fluffy bunny'acts now. This is serious doo-doo time and experience is the key. To hell with the Norwich connections and even if he brings in some ex Norwich players who do the business then who cares. No time to moan has ended and now we have to fight for the right to stay in this division. We are not too big to go down.... Just look at Sunderland, Blackburn and others. We are Ipswich and we stick together!!!!!!

It is highly unlikely that Lambert would have accepted the job without a promise of a kitty. He is better placed to bring players in than Hurst so it is quite probable that funds will flow. If not then I too will lose any faith that I have left in a club that means so much to me. We need that sense of belonging back again that Robson and a few others gave us. Hope is a commodity we have to believe in.

Should of given MM the money we wouldn't of been in the position we are in now,
yet another reason to use the considerable amount of time travelling etc to better use next season.

Hopefully ME might learn a thing or two about the way to engage with fans and the local community from the accolades that are coming out as a result of the sad tragedy concerning the Leicester City owner.

Thoughts are with all those connected with Leicester City Football Club.

If that's the case that lambert will get 10 million, then don't be to surprised if mick pops his head up. If he had half that money then we would've gone up for sure. I can sympathise with hurst and McCarthy

There are so many out of work good players right now that we don't have to wait until January to sign. Bent being one of them. We need players now, so let's get some in the door now.

£5m transfer profit from the summer + £5m cost of relegation = £10m. I'd say that £10m is the minimum ME has to invest.

I'll endorse an earlier comment about disillusionment amongst the squad with the new regime. Whilst generally sceptical when anyone here claims 'insider knowledge' I can assure you that mine comes straight from the dressing room! I also suspect Hurst was a little TOO keen on distancing himself from what went before. Ultimately this became a causitory factor in a failure to get the team to gel.

Has Pierluigi Collina been taken on the staff or is that his brother??

Good luck to PH for the future, simply did not have the rub of the green, too many individual mistakes ultimately cost him his job.
Will be interesting to see if this war chest comes to fruition, time will tell on that one, although ME has sent out a message of intent for survival with the early removal of PH.
Over to P.L. now, happy with this appointment, mammoth task lies ahead, but plenty of games to turn it around.

History says that in championship probably 44 pts at least is needed to stay up! So we need at least, 8 wins, 11 draws & 12 defeats to probably stand a chance??? So far 1 win 6 draws & 8 defeats! We need to start with win against Preston who only have 2 pts away from home COYB.
Also £10M wouldn't do any harm.

What this does highlight is having a good 'black book' of contacts you can call on .For all of MMs faults he did some good deals
Lambert is well connected and if given money would prob spend more wisely than PH who really did not have the network . Lets hope our fortunes change starting this weekend coming . Make PR a tough place to come again .

Most people have had their say on MM /PH/ & ME & respect their views. So now as supporters get behind P.L. & team to edge away from total destruction!!

Sorry I can't give any warm thanks to a man who in a few short months transformed our squad from a competent Championship squad to one that would struggle in League One.

That said hopefully Evans hedged his bets a little, there is money left from the summer we know that, remains to be seen if we spend any of it.

Let's not forget that PH took over a reasonably competent squad, which hadn't been utilised to it's full potential (players played out of position, negative tactics, poor substitutions, etc; ). Under the previous Manager, this would never have changed. But the squad was a capable one.

It was PH's decision to change most, if not all of that, for a less that capable outfit as currently is - ultimate proof that it was all a step too far for him, and his people he brought in.

Thus, we are an absolute rabble at this moment - therefore however 'nice' he was, he had to go - how it would have worked out long term is anyone's guess, but that chance could not be taken.

Hope you've learnt from the experience of the last 149 days Paul Hurst. I wish you well.

........ having said that - seven players of last seasons squad were present yesterday - which prove a clearance of dead wood, or a step up to the plate from these, will need to be actioned by PL sooner rather than later.

Yesterdays performance was a chronic dead rubber performance from them all.

Good luck in the future Hurst but don't feel sorry for you as you have been rubbish and have a tidy pay off for being Incompetent at your job and we also have to pay off Duig who must be smirking with his cash for doing sweet fa never feel sorry for a failure and you have left us with youngsters away on loan not getting games and a squad that is lacking in goals and ideas no I cannot feel anything but angry at what you have done you knew the job and were totally out of your depth good my k but that is it
