Town Confirm Elder Loan Signing
Wednesday, 2nd Jan 2019 11:14

Town have completed the signing of Leicester City left-back Callum Elder on loan for the rest of the season.

As TWTD reported over the weekend, the 23-year-old former Australian U20 international, who is out of contract in the summer, has been training with the squad for the last week and joined them on the trip to Middlesbrough at the weekend.

“I’m delighted we have been able to get Callum in early. He gives us more competition on the left side,” boss Paul Lambert told the club site.

“He is a very good player. He’s been training with top players at Leicester and he has handled that well.

“He’s got a really good left foot and he wanted to be here and that’s vital for me. I need players who want to come here and play for this club.”

Lambert's first Blues signing, who comes in as Jonas Knudsen seems set to move on during January, could make his Blues debut in the FA Cup third round tie at Accrington Stanley on Saturday. He will wear the Town number 25 shirt.

Elder, who joined the Foxes from Manly United based in his hometown of Sydney aged 16, is yet to make a senior appearance for Leicester but has spent time on loan at Mansfield, Peterborough, Brentford, Barnsley and Wigan.

He was with the Latics for the whole of the 2017/18 campaign as they carried off the League One title, making 30 starts and three sub appearances in all competitions, scoring once.

Elder’s only Championship experience came in spells with Brentford and Barnsley the previous season, a total of 11 starts for the two clubs.

When joining the Tykes, Elder, who qualifies for England and Scotland as well as Australia, described himself as “an athletic full-back. I like getting up and down the left-hand-side”.

A decent signing with possibly one eye on next season. Interestingly, in my opinion, the player that turned the game yesterday was Morrison who i dislike . However an experienced journeyman that knows the game and put the fear of god into Kenlock and our midfield. He stood up to his old boss when he nailed Challobolah with a wink . My Point ? Imagine if we had taken him on loan , the melt down on this site would have been ...tick tick boom . As those great philosophers Faith No More sang "you want it all but you cant have it" You cant please all the people so to twist or stick with this season or next ??

7 years at Leicester and not one game played!
He looks as if he has moved from the top half of the premier league to bottom of the championship..let's hope is looking to prove a point
Good luck Callum

Makes sense all round this, Knudsen leaving so another LB, already experience of winning L1 with wigan so know what that league is and what it takes to get out of it coz let's face it we are going down and I can see him wanting to play for us in L1 at this stage in his career plus loaned in now to bed in and why not with Knudsen leaving this month it seems

Personally I am more than happy with Kenlock and would rather we got a right back in so Spence can be rested.

As far as the defence is concerned that's 1 down only 3 more to go! Defo need 2 big CBs that can command the penalty area and deal with all the crosses and of course a RB that can stay awake.

We ain't a massive club Callum, and we don't think we are like some mediocre clubs do. Good luck. Hope you don't need it

Hopefully the type of player, standard wise, were going for in this window.
We have a near on billionaire owner, which is lucky, as to stand any chance of getting out this mess, its going to need big investment.
Over the coming days it will become clear what direction our very wealthy owner intends to take us.
He has the means to salvage this, but will he?

Welcome on board Callum, I think ME will be cautious and only agree to loanees unless we get to sell some players - Jonas being the obvious candidate.

This cautious approach is unlikely to save us.

This could be a good addition and from good stock, but I don't see him as back for Kenlock but more the other way round, unfortunately.
Happy that Knudsen appears to be on his way, should never have publicly stuck up for McCarthy, specially once he'd left, bad move Jonas!

Welcome. Very happy that you are here. Hope you help keep us up and then sign permanently in the summer. Good luck.
