Saturday, 23rd Feb 2019 14:16

Skipper Luke Chambers returns at Wigan as the Blues switch to a 3-5-2 system for the first time under Paul Lambert’s management.

Chambers, who has been out with a foot injury, starts in the back three with Jonas Knudsen and Matthew Pennington with Myles Kenlock and James Bree the wing-backs.

Teddy Bishop drops out of the 18 having been ill this week, although the 22-year-old did travel, with Trevoh Chalobah, Jon Nolan and Alan Judge in midfield, while Collin Quaner and Will Keane are up front.

Cole Skuse is on the bench for the second game running and Flynn Downes is also among the subs having been unwell last week.

For Wigan, Danny Fox and Lee Evans return to their XI with Cedric Kipre dropping to the bench and Nathan Byrne not in the matchday squad. Ex-Town striker Joe Garner is among the subs, while January Blues target Anthony Pilkington starts.

Wigan: Jones, James, Dunkley, Fox, Naismith, Evans, Morsy (c), Pilkington, Windass, Jacobs, Clarke. Subs: Walton, Gibson, Massey, McManaman, Kipre, Powell, Garner.

Town: Bialkowski, Bree, Pennington, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Kenlock, Chalobah, Nolan, Judge, Keane, Quaner. Subs: Gerken, Edwards, Skuse, Jackson, Downes, Nsiala, Dozzell. Referee: Lee Probert (Wiltshire).

Not surprised we are shoehorning Chambers into a formation we have never played before.
On the plus side Kenlock plays and not just replaced him with Knudsen.

It is actually Kenlock in probably the most suited position as in a flat 4 he gets caught out of position too often which stretches the other 3 into positions they shouldn't be in. At least this way when he is caught forward there is more cover. I have always thought Kenlock could make left midfield as better going forward than defending.

Back 3 which to order fits Chambers in and as mentioned I'm not sure we've done under Lambert before...next week we might see a 3-6-1 which then fits Skuse back in :)

All the best though lads - we need a win COYB!

No Collins again. Turning out to be a waste of a wage.

Team looks as strong as it can.

Crazy. Too much to hope for Bishop being fit three games in a row.

I said a few weeks back, I'd be surprised to see Collins play more than once more.
Now wouldn't be surprised to see him again.
But no worries we have Chambo back....

If Bish isn't available then surly there must be a place for Dozzell? Just can't understand the Dozzell situation.

Just to touch on the Bishop situation after so long out and playing a couple on the trot he might need a rest it's been so long since he could play week in week out, just a thought!
