McCarthy: Keane Out for Six Weeks
Wednesday, 27th Feb 2019 18:23

Former Town boss Mick McCarthy, now in charge of the Republic of Ireland, says Blues striker Will Keane will be out for six weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered at Wigan last Saturday and won’t be available for his side's March internationals.

Keane has recently opted to switch international allegiance to Ireland, where his father was born, having played for England at various youth levels.

"That was a straightforward one,” McCarthy told RTE when asked about the progress of Keane's qualification ahead of the March European Championship qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia.

“I rang him up, [he said] ‘Yeah, I’d love to’, he’s started the process [of transferring] and he is in that process now, and he’s sadly out injured. He got injured on Saturday and is out for six weeks.

"He was straightforward in going ahead with the process. Look, he is only 26 and is still a young man but has been blighted by injury and is sadly injured again. I’ve seen him play twice for Ipswich, and he played very well.”

Yesterday, current Town boss Paul Lambert said the club should have a better idea of the extend of Keane’s injury before the weekend.

Keane’s absence will be a big blow for the Blues with the former Manchester United youngster having been in impressive form with his penalty at Wigan his third goal for Town.

@Phill Didnt Mick McCarthy himself once complain about international mangers speaking about his players this way? It may have been something else I'm thinking of

Blimey. Some truly pathetic comments on here.
Embarrassing that you consider yourselves fellow town supporters.

Gcon. It's because we're true town supporters, that we feel this way. It's because MM is such a K***h**d that he feels the way he does.

Mings, Murphy, Cresswelll, Didz, Bart, Berra, Webster, Garner, Waghorn, Huws, all MM signings with an estimated spend of £3.3m. I'm sure there are more I have missed, not to mention some inspired loan signings. Successive 9th, 6th and 7th finishes in the league. Show me another manager that can achieve that on a similar budget. Hurst must have spent close to that in a matter of weeks! Love him or loath him I simply cannot accept that he is anything other than an excellent football manager.

Whatever the views on MM this is just disastrous news for the club and a real disaster. This lad can pla a bit and if we could keep him for next season he would surely fire us back in to championship.

First Jon Walters and now this-----definitely a season horribilis!!

Saxonblue74: Mick certainly made some good signings, but he also made a lot of poor ones that you failed to mention, albeit he was forced into taking chances on some because of a low budget. Also, wasn't it Jewell who signed Cresswell? Mick certainly wasn't responsible for that one. Of course, with his overall record, Mick must be considered a fairly sucessful manager, but I'm glad we've moved on. The atmosphere around the club is transformed; we had definitely come to the end of the road with MIck. There was nowhere else to go.

Saxonblue. The bottom line is MM achieved nothing for ITFC. The great signings you mention...Didz was the highest earner the clubs ever had. We could have got £7 for him but MM decided not to. We could have got £7 for Bart but MM decided not to. Waghorn was a lucky signing. We bought Webster, but lost better in Clarke. The 2 current long term injured have cost the club many millions, for 0 return.
And all loan signings were of the highest order, cost the club many millions in fees. Costs unlikely to be funded to that degree again. His 2 best signings, Mings and Wags were more luck than judgement. The real bad signings is a list to big to mention, all of which cost the club millions in wages, fees etc.

Itfc73. So, injuries are MM's fault, good signings were just luck and good profits should always be cashed in? As for loan signings and Didz wages costing then yes, of course they did. Best players today will cost more than our best players did 5 years ago. Yes, it was time for a parting of company but MM did well for us in my opinion.

Murphy was already known to us, via loan spells!

I respect your opinions Saxon. But the points you make and don't agree with me on. Wagg was signed because no one was intrested.in him. And nobody could see a goal in him. So more luck than not.
The 2 long term injured, have by an large always been the same. Arrived injured and have stayed injured. All the while on tidy contracts. The time MM was at the club, you would expect a handful of good signings at the very least. Didz left for nothing. Bart this summer, £1m? Berra was on huge money, left for nothing. Tommy Smith allowed to leave for nothing. Bad decisions after bad decisions.

Can our season get any worse ?

Maybe not in transfer fees alone. But MM was well backed financially. And over all failed Misrabally. Financial backing we may never see again. He now has the availability of the whole of Ireland. And i expect him to fail miserably again.

Has anyone stopped to think how McCarthy came about this information?

Do you think it possible that he may have contacted the club/player to find the injury status and was told that he was out for 6 weeks and that having been told this information he assumed that it was public knowledge?

Or does he really sit there with nothing else to do but be glued to TWTD conjuring ways to stick it up the fans who constantly dish out vitriol at him.

ITFCsince73.
I have zero respect for your opinion. It's complete b*ll*x.
eg. Waghorn was only signed because nobody else was interested in him....WTAF are you on about?
eg. MM was well back financially
I was going to go on but have lost the will to engage.

...... just a reminder to those who need it .... !!

I take it you've noticed what a different player McGoldrick is - now that he is removed from the clutches of McCarthy .... !! Continuously played at Ipswich to his under strengths by 'you know who'... !!
Nothing needs adding to this.

Lol Gcon. Who was after Waggy? Nobody.
Who was willing to pay Rangets what we were? Nobody.
Maybe MM had a crystal ball and see the goals he would score 1st season.
Like every new signing Gcon, it works or it doesn't.
As I say Mick hit lucky with Waggy simple.
Mick was allowed to bring in poor to average players and give them 10k per week on 2 or 3 year contracts.
As I say he was well backed financially.
And we wont see that kind of backing again possibly ever.
If it is PL, he will have to work on a fraction that MM had.

Itfcsince73. To quote you on a couple of your previous posts: "Evans has tight fisted us into oblivion" and "Evans investment would be inadequate for league 1, leg alone championship". On that basis how do you conclude MM was well backed financially? Every pundit without exception applauded MM for what he achieved at ITFC on his budget. You don't have to appreciate his style or lack of entertaining football to recognise his achievements. He's clearly a very "lucky" man if you take a look at his CV!

He was well backed financially compared to every other team in the league who had no real ambition of promotion...do you understand now? He was well backed financially for a club who was happy to stay in the Championship forever. It's not really that hard to understand..or is it. It's not all about transfer fees you understand...its the cost over the contract. And our squad cost at the higher end. Glad we cleared that up.

I clearly am incredibly inferior in the inteligence department so thanks for clearing a few things up for me ITFCsince1973. If there's anything else I can't get my tiny mind around I'll be sure to call upon your wisdom. Meanwhile I'll continue to post my opinion to anyone who would like to see it as such.
