Wilson: I'd Love to Stay at Town
Monday, 14th Oct 2019 16:50

Central defender James Wilson says he’d love to stay with the Blues beyond the end of his short-term contract, which is up on New Year’s Day, but that no discussions have yet taken place.

"I'd love to stay," he told the club site. “There haven't been any discussions yet but hopefully it will get sorted, that's what I'd like to happen. There's no place I'd rather be right now.”

Speaking about extending the 30-year-old’s deal earlier this month, manager Paul Lambert said: “He's certainly doing himself no harm whatsoever and I'm pretty sure it's something we need to look at.”

Wilson joined the Blues in the summer following a trial having left Sincil Bank by mutual consent earlier in the close season.

Having made his debut on the opening day at Burton, the Wales international has now taken his appearance total to nine starts.

However, the one-time Bristol City trainee will miss Sunday’s live Sky game at Accrington Stanley as he is suspended following his red card at Fleetwood the weekend before last.

"I was gutted because I know I was on a booking but I didn't think I did enough to justify getting sent off," he added.

"That was frustrating but there are plenty of games still to go and hopefully I can play my part going forward."

I certainly would urge the club to agree an extention to his contract.

He has very much exceeded fans (modest) expectations and has rarely put a foot wrong in all the games he has played. He's still a good age for a defender and seems a very sensible, reliable character who wants to stay so...just do it Town.

He deserves an 18 month contract based on his performances to date.

And we'd love you to stay too Mr Wilson. You've more than proven your worth. I'm confident the club will see sense and get something signed, sealed and delivered as having a defender that can help keep plenty of clean sheets is a no brainer. I think we've won just about every game that Wilson has started, say no more!

It says on the Forum that this a new contract for Wilson will be announced today or tomorrow. See here:

Announced either today or tomorrow.

Not the most exciting def info to break... but gotta start somewhere.

He deserves it though.

Realise this isn't official as yet but hopefully it turns out to be true.

It looks like good luck has cut both ways here ; he loves Town and we love him !For a chap departed from Lincoln that can’t be bad ,so let’s hope PL sees things the same way .NEWS awaited !

He's no nonsense. Clears his lines first and asks questions afterwards. At Cham level perhaps that invites the pressure back but it also means you have chance to then get players back and deal with it.

To often dithering on the ball and trying to be a bit too clever has cost us at the back, sometimes you need a no messing approach.

If in doubt kick it out.

Would like to see his contract extended for sure. Basically we need to keep all of our squad for the remainder of the season at least. They have done very well so far so why change anything?

Deserves an extension. Funny how all the moaners don’t hold their hands up and say they where wrong in slaying him when we signed him. So quick at moaning but so, so slow in admitting they’d got it wrong. Well done James Wilson for playing it the right way! 😊😊😊

When I’ve seen the Wolf and Wilson in a centre back partnership, I’ve been totally impressed.
The more game time they have together, a seriously good centre back pairing in the making imo.
The Woolf is premiership bound, just hope he can hold on 18 months....

Blocker. It’s not a case of the moaners.
I’d say 80% of town fans thought here we go, when told a player from Lincoln, who no one else wanted may be signed.
Shame more players who no one else wants, is that good.
Well done to Lambo and his staff for seeing what no one else could.

And to think some of the fickle fans who were saying when we signed him that we were clutching at straws as he couldn’t even get into the Lincoln side! Well good on him, he’s been Mr consistent and definitely needs to be offered a new contract! COYB
